VATSIM Info Popup (VIP) for Flow Pro - Image 1

    Beschreibung

NOTE: Since Flow Pro for 2020 will no longer accept widgets created with Flow Pro for 2024, it is no longer officially compatible with 2020.
You can try to edit the version manually in the contained json (see comment from Cityz_N) but neither can I provide an out of the box compatible download nor can I test it.

Getting tired of double clicking frequencies in vPilot, i created a widget that actively informs me about:

    • Controller Info whenever I switch to a frequency that matches an online controller
    • ATIS whenever the ATIS is updated
      • Optionally ATIS updates are pushed via Hoppie ACARS into your aircraft's inbox!

    • Online ATC frequencies whenever the list of online controllers changes
    • Simbrief data (if Simbrief ID entered in settings) containing important data for your flight and offering direct prefiling to Vatsim

The Information is also displayed initially once the widget recognizes you being online on Vatsim. Simbrief data pops up very soon after spawning if there is a flight plan created less than 4 hours ago.
The intention of this widget is that you set it up once and then don't have to actively interact with it except for reading the popups and discarding them (close popups by clicking text in the respective popup once acknowledged or by setting up an auto-close interval in the settings).

ATIS, Controller Info and Online ATC Frequencies are only shown once you connect to VATSIM and have a Flight Plan attached (only possible if you enter the Pilot ID in the widget settings), it may take a minute after logging on plus the interval you set in the settings for fetching the data.

Initially the ATIS+Frequencies for the departure airport are shown. Once you go above 5000ft AGL, it switches to Inflight mode with no automatic ATIS updates.
Once you start descending more than 4000ft below your max cruise level, auto updates for ATIS of your destination airport start and you'll quickly receive the first ATIS.
The widget always shows which airport is monitored. The case that a Departure and Arrival ATIS are available separately is also taken care of (e.g. EDDF_D_ATIS and EDDF_A_ATIS, the correct one will be chosen).
If Origin/Destination changes, it switches back to departure airport if you're below 5000ft (turnaround).

    ATIS:
ATIS has some information highlighted (Info/Information, Wind, Runway,...) if it matches a certain standard wording.
If you enter your hoppie code in the widget settings, the ATIS updates will be sent via Hoppie ACARS to your aircraft's received messages if the aircraft supports it (you can turn off ATIS popups if you just want to receive them via ACARS).

    Controller Info:
Controller info is highlighted if it contains CPDLC/DLC/PDC in the text.
If the controller info contains URLs, they are underlined and can be clicked to open a windows browser to that URL.
Switching to 122.800 shows "UNICOM" to confirm the right frequency is dialed.
Switching to a frequency with no controller online shows an information about this so that pilot is aware of wrong frequency switches.

    Frequencies:
Frequencies are shown in a top-down order with color coded letters.
Hovering a frequency shows a tooltip with the controller info of that frequency (if available). If the controller info contains URLs, they are underlined and can be clicked to open a windows browser to that URL.
Clicking on the colored icon of a frequency sets this frequency into COM1 standby.

    Simbrief data:
If you enter a Simbrief ID (not the username, it has to be the numeric ID), you will get a popup when spawning showing your current simbrief flightplan if it has been created less than 4 hours ago.
The popup will show the most important data as an overview, each of the data fields has a tooltips with details or explaination if you hover it with the cursor. A Fuel and Weight breakdown is also included in the popups on the Fuel and Cargo values.
If you have entered a Vatsim Pilot ID, this popup will show a "Prefile on Vatsim" button which will open a browser window prefilling all the data from simbrief in case you forgot to file. The button will be hidden once clicked or once you're online on vatsim and origin+destination match your routing.
Note that the Simbrief popup can be used without Vatsim Pilot ID and will simply act as a single popup showing the data without prefiling options and with no Vatsim popups.

If the widget in the wheel is clicked the monitoring/polling can be turned on/off, no matter if off or on you can get the current data by:
    - scrolling mouse wheel "up" while hovering the widget in the wheel will update vatsim data only (simbrief popup will not show if closed) and if enabled will send an ATIS message via Hoppie
    - scrolling mouse wheel "down" while hovering the widget in the wheel will update vatsim+simbrief data and show all popups (if enabled) and if enabled will send an ATIS message via Hoppie

The popup windows can be moved (together) across the screen using the title bar.
Each popup individually can be dismissed by clicking on its text content (there is also an optional individual auto-close interval that can be set in the widget settings).

    Controller binding

If you're using SPAD.next or AxisAndOhs or other programs that can bind controls to SimVars, you can toggle the different popups to show or hide by setting the following SimVars to the value 1:

    • Simbrief: 'L:FLOW VIP OPEN SIMBRIEF'
    • ATIS: 'L:FLOW VIP OPEN ATIS'
    • Controller Info: 'L:FLOW VIP OPEN CTRI'
    • Frequencies: 'L:FLOW VIP OPEN FREQ'

    NOTES / known issues:
If the last controller goes offline (no active frequencies) or the ATIS gets disabled (both resulting in an empty text), no popup is shown!
Polling is usually done every 2 minutes but can be changed - CAUTION: Every time it needs to download a ~1.5MB file from Vatsim, so be aware of that.
The Frequencies are found using the Airport ICAO code (IATA code for Kxxx airports), it only lists the frequencies that start with the airport code. Therefore Radar/Center are not displayed.
If multiple controllers are online with the same frequency (worldwide), all Controllers are listed in the Controller Info. Unfortunately it's complex to correlate current aircraft position to find the correct controller among those.
Controller Info is not updated automatically, it only shows when switching frequency or triggering a manual update (scroll mouse on the widget in the Flow Wheel or click to turn it off and back on again). Usually the info does not change and the auto-update led to the popup being shown when other controllers with the same frequency went online which is irrelevant.

    Installation

Just put the content of the ZIP into your Community folder. After sim restart you'll have a Category "VATSIM" containing the widget.

Drag the widget on your wheel, on the right put in your VATSIM Pilot ID and check if the other settings suit your needs.

There's an issue with update 2.4.2. It's not compatible with MSFS2020 (latest version 24.4.4) because in the json (flow/templates/p42-util-flow-CopperNu-vip-vatsim-popup.json) it's the 2024 version (2026 something).
I manually edited it so it works now.

Oh apologies, that's just what FlowPro generates and I have no influence about it.
I'll have to mark it incompatible with 2020 then since I don't have it installed and also no longer able to test it.
As long as your found change to make it works does make it work, feel free to use it, there have been no major changes anyway since it just does its job for me :)

Maybe you could pack both version into one zip. It only needs a small text change in the .json (and flow pro for 2020 probably won't ever be updated again) :)

I won't manually modify a file and ship it if I can't test it reliably.
So feel free to do the manual change yourself and see if it still works :) It's just pointless for me to say it is compatible while I can't test it.
Updated the description to reflect that. The old version still works just fine, so no big deal for those who are on 2020. Just don't expect backwards compatibility from me.

Awesome work. Does work perfectly in MSFS2024. Can you improve the Controller Info Pop-Up, so it does only show active frequencies in my vicinity.

I am currently in Afrika-Malawi and far away from any of these stations.

No I can't, there is no way for me to calculate distance to stations. It's just something you'll have to live with or disable the controller popup :)

    Very useful , thank you
A little request - Is it possible to have the popup when some controller is contacting you ? That would made a Vpilot absolute in background when in fullscreen

Unfortunately not, vPilot does not provide messages to the sim, so I have no access to it. But there is a plugin for vPilot to send DMs via PushOver to your phone for instance, if that serves the purpose for you. Just search for "Pushover vPilot". Thanks for the 5 stars, glad you like it :)

An absolute, outstanding tool. I love the small footprint ; not taking up so much screen real estate... nice touch indeed. The functionality you developed into the app is exemplary.

Please make it so that it always displays ATIS when you change frequency to some freq where it's available. This is the most important feature of the software, and I find that this is missing even though many other things work great.

Uhm that is already working like that, if you change frequency and have the controller info enabled, it will show a popup. You can set a timeout for it to automatically disappear again or have it stay open until you click into it to hide it again. Not sure what exactly you're missing here.

I was missing the fact that I can bring up ATIS manually as well. All good! Thanks for a great addin!

    - Removed CTAF in frequency popup (my data is outdated, use the .ctaf ICAO command in vPilot) - Disabled clickable frequencies in frequency popup since setting frequencies in MSFS is buggy for certain ranges, leading to issues with changing it afterwards - VIP will go into "Inflight" state above 5000ft and no longer push/popup ATIS until descent (more than 4000ft below max flight level) to avoid updates on longrange flights. Use the mouse scroll up on the widget to fetch a one time ATIS for your destination while in cruise - In the Simbrief popup, the fuel tooltip now also shows a FINRES+ALTN sum at the bottom, used as "Reserve" sum in some aircraft
