The FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire V2 is a completely new recreation of the Supermarine Spitfire developed specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Rather than converting the developer's existing MSFS 2020 Spitfire, FlyingIron has rebuilt the aircraft from the ground up to make use of the newer simulator's development tools, flight model and visual capabilities.
The package will cover several variants. These include the Mk.IX with C and E wings, elliptical and clipped wing configurations and different rudders; the Mk.VIII with retractable tailwheel and Standard Beam Approach equipment; the low-back Mk.XVI with bubble canopy and gyro gunsight; and the experimental Mk.IXc floatplane.
Systems simulation is also being substantially expanded. FlyingIron has announced a custom Merlin engine model, detailed fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems based on technical manuals, a new EFB, period Standard Beam Approach navigation, configurable aircraft loadouts and an extensive startup management system. A complete sound overhaul and new visual effects for engine flames, smoke and other effects are also planned.
Flight dynamics are being rebuilt around MSFS 2024's CFD and updated flight-model technology. FlyingIron states that the objective is to reproduce the Spitfire's characteristic handling and engine behavior more accurately than its previous MSFS implementation.
