The Miltech Simulations U-2 Spyplane is an upcoming military aircraft package for Microsoft Flight Simulator that recreates the iconic Lockheed U-2 reconnaissance aircraft. Originally announced in 2024, the project has evolved into one of Miltech's most ambitious releases, combining advanced aircraft systems, mission-based gameplay, and custom reconnaissance mechanics.
The package will include multiple aircraft variants, including the modern U-2S with a digital cockpit, the classic U-2R with analog instrumentation, and the NASA-operated ER-2 research aircraft. The development team has focused heavily on accurately reproducing the aircraft's unique operational characteristics, including extreme-altitude flight, narrow performance margins near coffin corner, and the challenging landing procedures that require chase car support.
Beyond the aircraft itself, the product includes a complete operational ecosystem. Miltech is developing reconnaissance camera systems, terrain mapping functionality, custom sensors, mission content based on historical and modern events, and several custom airbases associated with U-2 operations. Mission content is planned through Mission Hub integration and will cover scenarios inspired by Cold War reconnaissance missions and modern intelligence operations.
