Hello,

Since version 0.22.x AL now supports both MSFS2020 and MSFS 2024

to use it with MSFS2020 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker.exe file
to use it with MSFS2024 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker_2024.exe file

Note : new versions may introduce new features or important changes, please always check the changelog entries when installing a new version.

The first thing you'll probably do when trying this tool for the first time is move your currently installed addons outside of your 'real community folder' to put them in your new 'custom addon folder'. To avoid problems, please try first with a single addon only to make sure everything works fine for you.It would be sad if you move 200GB and then you notice it does not work for you. Files placed directly in the new folder should always work but, for some users (not the majority) the files moved might get encrypted if you have the MS-Store version so it's worth checking before moving too many files. Thank you.

Another little addons manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community. The main features are :

organize your addons freely in folders and subfolders with no limitations
quick activation/deactivation of addons without moving the files on the disk
presets management for global activations
map screen for addons localisation and activation
liveries browser
documentation browser
content.xml editor (msfs2024 only, will let you disable/enable base content 'streamedpackages' if needed)
airport icao scanning and duplicates finder
several other utilities to check addons (modellib / materiallib / ...)
ability to connect to simulator and visit addons with aicraft teleporting (via the map screen)
many more little options here and there ....

Installation :
- just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

basic usage :
- create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
- launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
- just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
- rest should be fairly easy to understand. There are several Youtube videos available that can help, please check them out.

Is there any option to have it scan and/or use both the Community and the Community2024 folders? I ran into an issue where an airport was still showing despite being disabled. Found out Contrail had installed it into the Community2024 folder and addons linker was only enabling/disabling the shortcut in the regular Community folder

Subject: Bug Report / Critical Data Loss Hazard: MSFS 2024 Directory Naming Conflict Causes Total Deletion of Community Folder

Dear Development Team,

First of all, thank you for your amazing work on the MSFS Addons Linker. It is an essential tool for the flight simulation community. However, I recently experienced a severe case of data loss due to an aggressive folder-wiping behavior triggered by a naming conflict with MSFS 2024. I am writing this to help you prevent other users from suffering the same issue.

The Problem

In MSFS 2024, if a user decides to change their official simulator installation path via the in-game settings to a custom root folder named exactly C:\Community, MSFS 2024 automatically creates its subdirectories inside it (e.g., C:\Community\Community, C:\Community\Official, etc.).

If a user configures the MSFS Addons Linker with the following path settings:
- My Addon Folders (Source): A custom folder on another drive (e.g., C:\Msfs2024_Addons)
- MSFS Community Folder (Target): Pointed to the newly created C:\Community root folder

Upon clicking the "Launch Simulator" button, the Addons Linker performs a cleanup/wipe routine. Because of the identical naming (C:\Community), the software misinterprets the entire directory tree. Instead of only removing orphan symbolic links, it aggressively deletes the entire folder structure on C:\Community, including all physically installed payware aircraft (such as Black Square planes) and core simulator files.

The Solution / Workaround

The issue was completely resolved only after I manually renamed the custom MSFS root directory to a unique name: C:\MyCommunity.
After updating the target path in the Addons Linker to C:\MyCommunity\Community, the directory structure was no longer identical to the tool's internal naming expectations, and the destructive wiping behavior stopped completely.

Feature Request for User Protection

To protect other users who might use a simple folder named "Community" for their custom MSFS 2024 installation, I highly recommend implementing a safety check before the launch/wipe routine:

1. Safety Prompt: If the software detects physical folders (not just symlinks) or core MSFS 2024 files (like Official or Streamed Packages) inside the targeted path, it should abort the wipe and display a warning.

2. Path Validation: A warning if the target path is structurally identical to basic root names, preventing potential zircular directory conflicts.

Hello, sorry to read about what you experienced, but there is NO code inside AL that will wipe a folder automatically it just can't do that. Implementing a wipe routine would be completely crazy to do, i would never even think about that. The only option that would clear a folder is manually using the 'delete folder' option and that is available only if the folder is empty because i just didn't want to delete anything by error. So not sure what you experienced there but i'm 100% sure it's not related to AL but to the sim itself and the way it manages its community folder when you launched it after messing with it in some special conditions. Hello, i think those files are created automatically by the sim if the addon is a native 2024 one. Not sure what the file does but it seems to contain files names so it's better to not rename any files inside the subfolders if there is such a file in the root folder to make sure the addon still works as intended.

Hello! I use both 2020 and 2024 in the same PC. Is it possible to make two different settings of this Linker and make 2 different desktop shortcuts for these both simulators WITHOUT everytime changing settings?

Hello, yes, the zip contains 2 EXE ... one is for 2020 (linker.exe) and the other (linker_2024.exe) is for 2024. So just create 2 different shortcuts pointing to the 2 different EXE and they will have their own settings.

Hello, this looks like you created a bad shortcut where the 'start in' field doesn't match with the 'target' field. Please try to delete the shortcut and create a brand new one. If that still doesn't work, please send me a picture of your shortcut settings (screen that appears when you right click on the shortcut and select 'properties'). Let me know, thank you.

You are right, I've been accessing it from my start menu and searching the exe. If I open it from the folder where its located, it works fine :S

What's confusing is that the exe it finds in the search is the same exe as the one in the original folder.

Anyway, last days "lost function" of opening map with airports (little icon with earth globe). In my PC opens the empty window and that is all.
Using the map, and chosing the areas of the World (with shift key) was FUNTASTIC.
Is there something wrong?

Thank you for the feedback, appreciated. Not sure if i understand correctly the issue. If it's just the Windows not appearing at all, you can try to go in the options screen ('UI options' tab) and click the button at the bottom named 'Restore Windows position'. That should fix the issue. If it's something else, please send me a little screenshot of what you see to help me understand better. Thank you.

Hello the program is easy to use but it's not about simply asking an AI agent to tell you what to do ;-) .. it's about kowing the concept of what it does and why it does it. Probably you don't even need it if you are new to the sim and its file structure and find it complicated. If interested, i suggest you watch some youtube videos explaining its goal and you'll see what it does and how easy it can be. Thank you.

hello old friend, I dont know why but every time I run Addons Linker (2020 version), ALL folders are expanded. It updates the .INI file and all looks ok but it wont load my last folder state as I had it. Any ideas??

Hello, strange, do you have the option 'remember last state' selected in the options screen ? If yes and it still doesn't work, maybe you can try to delete the Folder_ExpandedStatus.bin file in the %programdata%/MSFS Addons Linker\Data folder and it will be recreated next time you close AL.

The Community folder in Microsoft Flight Simulator can quickly become overwhelming at the time you're managing multiple sceneries and airports without any organizational structure.

Hello, a very small update but still recommended to all users. [NEW] Optional GSX folder scanning. If enabled (options screen), the column 'Gsx Profile' will show 'Yes' for addons for which you have a GSX profile installed. For this to work you need to use the AL ICAO scanner so that it will then match the ICAO found by AL with the GSX .ini file. Due to the way GSX works, there are some limitations and, to my knowledge, it's not possible to identify exactly if an INI file matches with a specific addon because this is done by GSX only when inside the sim. So with AL, you will just get the information if a GSX profile matches a specific ICAO and, if you have 2 addons for the same ICAO, both will display the value 'Yes'. If you have any idea on how this can be improved let me know, i don't have GSX so my knowledge is limited. As a reminder, you can save the column size/position by using the right click menu 'save columns order/size'. [NEW] New column and filter available on the map screen to show only enabled addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the modellib checker if used with native 2024 addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the flightplan loading on the map [FIX] Several other minor fixes [REMOVED] Removed the Bing maps because they have been discontinued by Microsoft. Unfortunately, its successor 'Azure map', which technically could be implemented fairly easily inside AL, is now a lot harder to access (credit card and phone number required). It will also probably start charging you if you go over the monthly free limit because they are not rich enough. So well, not really suited for AL :(.. Investigating for possible alternatives, for now you'll have to use the OpenStreetMap provider (or the very 'simple' map if you just need basic localisation). Sorry for that but out of my control. Thank you.
