The Canarias Islands include, in a amazing landscape, two of the most important astromical observatories :
* the Roque de Los Muchachos observatory, home of the biggest telescope in the world up to now (the GTC Gran Telescopio Canarias)
* the Tenerife observatory, in the top of the Teide caldera.
The Islands provide the best conditions for astronomy (clear sky, stable atmosphere, no light pollution) after Chile.
Version 4.0 : reworked for SU10 compatibility
Delete all previous version folders :
- droide-lapalma-wu8override
- droide-cta
- droide-tenerife
- droide-lapalma
- droide-fuencaliente
and replace with the provided folders.
This version has been reworked to solve many compatibility issues with SU10 and WU8.
Previous versions could use custom terrains (DEMs). This is not possible anymore.
Just make sure you have world update 8 Iberia (Spain) installed.
Required libraries :
Download and install the “Windy Things Livrary” in you community folder.
Download and install the “Dave’s 3D People Library” in your community folder.
Optionnally, you can also add “Global AI Ship Traffic” to increase the traffic in Canarian seas.
This scenery is part of my Giant Telescope project, that you can download here : https://flightsim.to/file/12401/giant-telescopes

2 questions please:
Precisely, wich files have to be deleted
What means "DEM's" ...?
droide 4 month(s) ago
DEMs means custom terrain : just use terrain provided with WU8 Iberia/Spain
Thank you for your comment : i added the name of the folders to be deleted to make it more clear.

Thanks for the update; assuming that I should delete the old droide-lapalma-wu8override folder? Also assuming I'm utterly wasting my time as this'll all be part of the megapack soon enough lol?
droide 4 month(s) ago
Indeed the megapack will be updated as soon as i can.
SU10 messed up everything, it will be a huge work to clean this up, to do this may take some weeks.

😞 well good luck and know that the work is appreciated 😊

Thank you so much for the correction.

So now with WU8, and not using other DEMs, which version should I be using?
droide 10 month(s) ago
I recommend using 2m DEM with version 3.5 of this scenery.
derekschinke
World Update 8 now includes Observatorio Roque de los Muchachos
droide 10 month(s) ago
Yes, but they made a very ugly work !
I'll will publish a new version of my scenery that will totally override WU8,
nothing interesting to keep...
derekschinke 10 month(s) ago
Does 3.3 work without Mikeaat's Spain Canary 20m DEM? They said their DEM doesn't work anymore: https://flightsim.to/file/14842/spain-canary-20m-dem-high-resolution-terrain-elevation-data-from-lidar-imaging/267468
droide 10 month(s) ago
I tested with 2m DEM and version 3.5 of this scenery

Brilliant. Thanhs for the update to the 2m DEM

Been multiple times on La Isla Bonita (La Palma), even when the volcano started, I tried your scenery. It is great, no question!
Still, there is a "but": the two MAGIC and the LST are shown as radio telescopes. But they are optical mirrors to search for Tchernenkov Radiation in the upper athmosphere...

I apreciate your work, it´s really great so far. Is it possible to change these three telescopes? Or are there no mirrors in MSFS? (I have no idea... I´m only a humble user)
droide 1 year(s) ago
Thank you for your comment. You are right, Cherenkov telescope have mirror surface on the opposite of radio-telescopes.
I tried to improve reflection rendering. Seems much better now, and i added a little surprise for night time...
It will be included in the next update very soon.

Thank you, great news, looking forward to the update!
Oh, sure, it´s Cherenkov... Tchernenkov was someone other... LOL

Thank you for the update, great stuff!

Hi, I know you've already gone through the effort of supporting mikeaat's 20m DEM for this project, but I was just wondering if you've seen the *2m* "CanaryDEM" by sprightlyoldman? Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like the better option if you ever end up doing revisions in the future (as long as it's not adding too much work; you're supposed to be busy making me entirely new telescopes!)
droide 1 year(s) ago
I think it is worth trying with this 2m DEM. Probably 90% of the scenery is compatible. I'll check that.

Great stuff! Really much appreciated!
Quick questions: the droide-fuencaliente folder in the V2 package, and the droide-airport-gcxo-teide and the droide-airport-romu-lapalma in the V1 package are airports? Can I use all three at the same time? Which ones won't work with the DEM/normal terrain?
Thanks.
droide 1 year(s) ago
If you use to stay with the standard DEM, you should use only the folders that are provided with V1 package.
Don't use droide-fuencaliente folder from V2

You have the 'CTA' in both of your packages, in order to keep things correct, in which package should the CTA go, in the Giant or the Canarias? Great work as always, thanks for it. EDIT.... OK both are needed, correct... Chile and Canarias.... could you rename them South and North, as addon linker calls them as duplicate files. Its not a major problem as I have already renamed mine, but may cause confusion for others.
droide 2 year(s) ago
Hello, there should be only one CTA folder.
This folder includes both North and South arrays. Unfortunately not possible to split.
You are right, this folder is provided in "Giant Telescopes" and also "Canarias observatories", but it is the same content.
Just keep the most recent one.
CptMorgan 2 year(s) ago
Thanks for clearing that up.

Thank you so much, I cannot thank you enough. For those of us who love astronomy, having an accurate depiction of the observatories is just great.
I almost got to tears when I saw that William Herschel in its dome!
El Roque is the most wonderful place in the world for me. One million Thanks.

You may be happy to listen that many observatories more are coming in the very next days. Stay tuned !...

I splitted because it was becoming very big (some more is coming), and i thought it would be better to gather by country.
