Souillac: Abbatiale, viaducs and other landmarks - Image 1

    Beschreibung

Souillac (Languedocien: Solhac) is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France, on the river Dordogne. It is the site of the new Brive–Souillac Airport, which opened in 2010. The town hosts an annual jazz festival in July. The Souillac abbey church is known for its famous Romanesque carvings.

This mod contains the following packs:

-Abbatiale Sainte-Marie: The church dates back to the 12th century and is similar to the Byzantine-style buildings such as Cathedral Saint-Front in Périgueux and Cathedral Saint-Etienne in Cahors, but it is more advanced in its forms, lighter in his elevation. The transept is particularly important, while the choir, polygonal, opens onto several chapels.
The church comes with its own lights and POI.
This mod also contains some local elevation and terrain fixes, in particular for the nearby highway, east of Souillac.

-Beffroi Saint-Martin: The Saint-Martin church was built durng the 15th century but several parts including the choir have been demolished. The belfry bell tower dates back to the 16th century. In 1573, the Protestants set fire to the frame of the church and blew up the north facade as well as a large part of the west facade of the bell tower.
The belfry comes with its own lights.

-Château de Cieurac: The imposing Château de Cieurac dominates the Dordogne valley. Its reconstruction, carried out in the 19th century after a fire that devastated it in 1887, has entirely reshaped its original appearance to make room for a neo-gothic opulent and functional construction. It is today a private property.
The castle comes with its own POI.

-Viaducs de Souillac: The railroad crossing of Haut-Quercy, from Souillac towards Toulouse or Aurillac, was a real technical feat for the time due to the tormented geographical environment. Several viaducs were built in the area and this mod features 5 of them, very visible from the sky, making it truely unique.

-Pont Louis Vicat: It is a masonry road bridge 180 m in length with 7 spans of 22 m. At the beginning of the 19th century, Napoleon I, heading to Spain for the war, went through Souillac and had to cross the Dordogne. The bridge not being built, he had to find another way. He eventually crossed it, but ordered the construction of a bridge which had to be completed before his return. He entrusted the task to engineet Louis Vicat. Construction began in 1812, requiring the Notre-Dame du Port chapel to be destroyed. Louis Vicat used artificial cement for the construction of the bridge (this is the first bridge using this technology). Construction was completed in 1824.

mv46-souillac_pont also fixes flattened vegetation issues south of the bridge

All models were recreated manually from various photos and videos from the internet.

It is great to explore world landmarks via MSFS2020. This is one of them. And it's great to fly close with the STOL aircrafts like Savage Cub.

Thank you to developers for sharing South-Western France Landmark.

Congrats ..Really a pleasure to fly around here low and slow. The emhaced asobo mesh , the viaducts and the castle combine beutifully. Any plans to add some details for the three little airfields arround, or even photogrammetrie for some villages if available ? to make this spot "as rea as it gets" ? just dreaming ..

    Hello,
Thanks for your comment. I don't know the local airfields to make pertaining enhancements for these. I hope that they will be covered by another passionate modder. As for photogrammetry, even cities like Perigueux or Cahors are not covered... I will however keep enhancing nearby landmarks and cities with handcrafted models.

I really love your sceneries. However, one question : do "Château de la Treyne" ,"Château de Castelnau-Bretenoux", "55 castles in Dordogne", "Ruines de Taillefer" are part of the scenery?

Nope they must be downloaded and installed separately but are all compatible and related to the same area.

I think the folder "mv46-souillac" is also contained in "mv46-souillac_beffroi". Is this intended?

Nope, it's probably an old version that slipped there. It can be safely deleted.
