    Fixes for 425 Papua New Guinea airstrips - Image 1

    Beschreibung

    A mod to fix various issues with 425 airfields, covering the whole of Papua New Guinea.

    One aspect of remote bush strip flying in forested areas of Papua New Guinea in MSFS is having huge trees right up to the runway threshold, in an unrealistic way. In real life, actively used airstrips in PNG are maintained by local people, with the vegetation on short final usually cut down to a safe height.

    This mod tries to put things right by trimming rogue vegetation from PNG bush strip runways (which sometimes have trees encroaching) and approaches. On some airfields, I've flattened the runway, or flattened a nearby river. In one case (AYPC), an airstrip on an island in a lake, the default sim doesn't have the island at all, and you spawn in the middle of the lake if you try to start there. The new "water runway" at AYXG Sugu, on a narrow winding river, has no water at all in default! I've added some water to the river...

    There are some airfields which have clear approaches in the default sim and didn’t need any tree trimming. Fixes for 425 airfields are included in this mod (scroll down for the full list), out of a total of 477 airfields in default MSFS in Papua New Guinea.

    Previous versions of this mod avoided any fixes for all airstrips which have a custom mod available on flightsim.to. From version 2.0 on, all airstrips in PNG are covered regardless of whether another mod exists.  The aim is to have PNG functionally flyable without having to install a large number of mods: at least each runway should be visible, not covered by trees, no giant trees at the threshold, etc.  However, I have been careful to minimise my changes on airstrips where I know another mod exists, so there should be no visible issues at all with using both this and other PNG airstrip mods.

    You can then delete my other mods from your flightsim.to downloads list, so you only get notified about updates to the mega mod.

    This is a masterpiece!! I gave up flying PNG a while back because of all the clutter on the thresholds. Kept crashing into trees that I was pretty sure would not be their in real life. This mod has brought me back. Thanks you.

    Would it be a huge amount of work to add one parking space to each of the strips? That would allow us to load in cold and dark. A few custom airstrips have a parking spot, but the vast majority don't.

    Re parking spots - sadly, yes, that would be a truly massive project. At the moment this mod does not, technically, include custom airports at all - just modifications to the vegetation (and, sometimes, the terrain and water). This is why this mod can usually co-exist with other custom-airport mods without any problems. Creating parking spaces would mean building an actual custom airport for each of the 400+ airfields in PNG. That would take far more work than this mod has involved so far - and would mean that there are issues with other custom versions of any of those airfields. So I'm afraid that is off the table, unfortunately.

    Well, as nice some parking spots would be, this mode is still awesome none the less. A month later and I'm still having a blast with these remote mountain strips.

    Hi! This is a newer version of 'papua-new-guinea-airstrip-maintenance' than the one currently in the mega-mod, so it should overwrite the one in the mega-mod. I'll be releasing a newer version of the mega-mod with this version (and newer versions of other mods contained in it) soon.

    Most Papua (WA__ ICAO codes) airports are still filled with trees in the edges, specially around Bugala Airstrip. But that is ok, it gets to be an adventure to try and do a STOL on them lol

    Hi! This mod is only for Papua New Guinea. I have a separate mod for western New Guinea - previously called Papua province (of Indonesia), now 7 provinces (WA.. idents): https://flightsim.to/file/37887/western-new-guinea-fixes which only covers the longitudes between the Papua New Guinea border and WAVV Wamena. I'm planning to release more updates to cover areas further west in future.

    Thanks! I expect almost all of these fixes to work fine; there might be a couple of cases where runway slopes are a bit weird after the elevation model changes in PNG/western New Guinea with WU13. I'll be releasing a new version soon, to cover the 15 new airstrips in PNG, and fixes for any issues that I notice.

    Hi - you should still install the new version, I think. There should be no clash or conflict between version 2.0 and any other PNG airstrip mods, as far as I am aware. And version 2.0 adds fixes for the 35 PNG airstrips recently added to MSFS.
