KTMB - Miami Executive Airport (Detailed Airport Improvement)

NOTE: SOME DEFAULT OBJECTS FROM THE ASOBO LIVERPOOL AIRPORT (EGGP) WERE USED FOR THE DESIGN OF THIS SCENERY. IT'S NECESSARY THAT YOU HAVE THE ASOBO LIVERPOOL AIRPORT INSTALLED IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE PROPERLY DISPLAYED.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Miami Executive Airport, formerly known until 2014 as Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport (ICAO: KTMB) is a public airport in Miami-Dade County, Florida, 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Downtown Miami. It is operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

The airport opened on November 18, 1967, replacing Tamiami Airport, next to the Tamiami Trail. Growth of the surrounding area and the nearby flight path to Miami International Airport forced the move to the southwest, near the community of Kendall. The Florida International University is now on the site of the old Tamiami Airport. It's currently a very busy airport with several flight schools, with more than 450 aircraft based there, mostly single-engine light aircraft.

One interesting landmark at the airport site is the Bay Of Pigs Invasion Memorial, on the public access section of the airfield. It's a monument that primarily honors those aviators who participated in this unknown and misunderstood battle over and on Cuba, in particular those who gave their lives for the freedom of Cuba. Also honored are cuban and american fighters who perished on the ground and on the sea.

The airport covers 1,380 acres (558 ha) and has three asphalt runways:
    Runway 09L/27R:  5,003 x 150 ft (1,525 x 46 m)
    Runway 09R/27L:  5,999 x 150 ft (1,830 x 46 m)
    Runway 13/31:  4,001 x 150 ft (1,220 x 46 m)

In the year ending 17 May 2011 the airport had 193,815 aircraft operations, averaging 531 per day: 99% general aviation, 1% air taxi and <1% military. Out of the more than 450 aircraft based at the airport, 69% are single-engine, 20% multi-engine, 8% helicopter and 3% jet. The airport is a port of entry with U.S. Customs personnel on hand, although it is not certified for airline use. In recent years it has become popular as a corporate aviation terminal. It is also the main airbase of the Miami-Dade Police Aviation Unit and houses the Miami-Dade College's aviation programs. The Wings Over Miami aviation museum is also at the field. The airport is also home to Tamiami Composite Squadron, a local squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (United States Air Force Auxiliary), whose mission includes aerial and ground search and rescue. Fire protection at the airport is provided by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department Station 24.

    THE AIRPORT IN MSFS:
This is a detailed improvement or upgrade of the default MSFS Miami Executive Airport mostly using default Asobo/MS assets, plus several external object libraries (see "Dependencies" section in the included ReadMe file) and 3D models taken from 3D Warehouse/SketchUp either for the airport itself and for some landmarks of the city of Miami that are also included.

    NAVAIDS:
Runway 09R has an operating ILS - instrument landing system. The RWY09R ILS approach is properly setup in this scenery, with the added representation of the localizer antenna and the corresponding glideslope (3 deg. slope). The ILS (id: ITMB), has a frequency of 108.70 MHz, with a 093 deg. course and a range of 18 nm. Besides the ILS, two nearby VOR stations are represented in this scenery, the VKZ (Virginia Key VOR, 117.10 MHz) and the DHP (Dolphin VOR, 113.90 MHz) and can be seen from above with Photogrammetry set to ON. With Photogrammetry OFF it could be a viewing interference from the AI buildings placed by the sim engine.

    MIAMI CITY LANDMARKS:
Included are just a few interesting landmarks of the city of Miami:
    + Coral Gables City Hall
+ Datran Center and Marriott Hotel in Dadeland
+ Versailles Restaurant (iconic cuban restaurant located at the famous Calle Ocho)

Important information about Dependencies, Credits, Installation Instructions, etc., are given in the ReadMe file included in the download. Please take a look at it. Three charts for the airport and approach procedures are also included in the download.

Hope you all download and enjoy the Miami Executive Airport as much as we do!.

Lots of great details - however, the usage of upwards of 20 the static Asobo 172's hurts the performance down when they load in. Please consider using something more FPS friendly such as UK2000 scenery library which is available for free.

Thanks for your comments. By the time the scenery was released there was a minor impact on performance by using the included static models. The UK2000 Library was released a bit after and such library is excellent and I used it on several of my recent sceneries. Will take in account your suggestion in case there's another version of KTMB

Very nice looking airport, but for some reason idespite double checking my install, including dependencies, it doesn't display all the custom buildings (for instance signature is missing). I see that another user had the issue, was it resolved ? Thanks

Thanks for your comments. Check also you have installed the Aerosoft Paderborn Airport, which is freeware (at their website, from memory at the time MSFS2020 was first released). Let me know

Thank you for your quick answer. I added Paderborn and checked that I already had Liverpool (as per the instructions) but still no joy. Some buidlings (Bay of pigs monument, helo rides, fire rescue station) show up fine, all the objects and static a/c are there, but some buildings are absent (signature, International flight center among others). I do have a standard edition. Bit of a head scractcher...

I think the issue is with Asobo after the AAU1 update. They changed the avionics on the CJ4.

Sorry to see this is happening to you. I don't have issues with the ILS approach after the fix issued days after the original release. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version. Remember that for the airport, in case you'll continue with the issues with the ILS, you can try other types of approaches like the RNAV to runways 09L and 09R, so, if you wish you can keep KTMB installed anyway.
