(KCEC) Del Norte County Regional Airport, Crescent City, CA, USA - Image 1

    Beschreibung

This is an upgrade to the default KCEC airport in MSFS, now version 2. All modifications are done using Microsoft's SDK, custom objects, and library objects.

Crescent City is the northernmost major settlement on the California coast (it is actually closer to YVR than LAX!). Temperatures are mild throughout the year and the area is famous for low ceilings and foggy conditions that are possible anytime. Anybody who has driven Highway 101 from San Francisco to Oregon has probably stopped here for lunch or an overnight at one time or another. I used to fly into CEC many years ago during my pilot training and thought this area could use some attention. Currently there is pretty limited airline service.

    Features include:

    • Custom airport objects including the new terminal (opened in 2019), GA hangars, and the Cal-Ore Lifeflight FBO
    • Custom airport facilities such as security shacks, signs, and antenna array
    • Custom area landmarks including the Battery Point lighthouse and Del Norte County Fair
    • Also added the CEC VOR, weather station, windsocks, Point St. George antenna, and ramp clutter
    • Terrain modification to the airport property
    • Modified vegetation including small parks/grass at the FBOs and added area trees
    • Rebuilt taxiways as default MSFS had some issues with fuel station locations and taxiway lights. All taxiway signs replaced too
    • Replaced default runways as MSFS VASI and other details were not correct
    • Enhanced the local seashore as many small rocks, islets, and wave crashpoints were missing. Approaches to runways 11 and 35 should look much better than default

    *Notes*

    1. There is no terminal interior and I had to use simplified night lighting

    2. My custom objects are designed to give a general impression and have some imperfections. I am not a very experienced modeler, sorry!  I had hoped to make some static aircraft from Cal-Ore Lifeflight, but it didn't work out

    3. No major issues found in MSFS24 testing

    4. Some Microsoft WU dependencies are used. You will need KASE and TNCM installed to see everything, including terminal lights. My CA airports library is also a dependency and is in the list.

    *Installation*

    1. Unzip the .ZIP file
    2. Place the indicated folder in your MSFS "community" folder in your MSFS installation location.

For some ramp objects and the VOR, you will also need to download the free UK2000 library here if you don't already have it:

Hi, reporting in from 2024: Everything looks like they're in the right places but I am getting pop-ins. The Cal-Ore Life Flight building as well as the adjacent hangars load in only when I'm quite close to them. The pop-in issue seems to get better when I load in again. Upon closer inspection, the buildings are also intensely polygonal. This remains the case even when I reload the sim.

Thank you for the report. I aim to update CEC models when I get the chance as I have learned a lot since doing it. Please stay tuned.

Out of curiosity, are you having any similar pop in issue with my more recent releases?

This is the first of your airports that I've flown in 2024. I only recently started flying on 2024 and have mostly been flying in the north. This is the first dip down to California I've taken. I'll report back as I explore the state and your airports further!

I see, if you can try KIZA, S21, or O22 (much more recent ones) I would appreciate it
