NAMC YS-11

The NAMC YS-11 is a twin-engine turboprop airliner developed in Japan during the early 1960s by the Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (NAMC). Designed to replace aging piston-engine aircraft on short- to medium-haul routes, it became Japan’s first post-war passenger airliner and a symbol of the country’s reemerging aerospace industry. The YS-11 could carry around 60 passengers, offered reliable performance, and was well-suited for regional operations with its ability to operate from short runways. Despite modest commercial success outside Japan, it served airlines and military operators worldwide for decades and remains an important milestone in Japanese aviation history.
