This is my first real coding project, so bugs are to be expected. Feedback is always welcome.
FailControl requires the .NET9 runtime.
Not all failures will work on every aircraft.
✈️ FailControl — Failure Injection for MSFS 2024
FailControl is a lightweight, customizable failure injector for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Designed to add realism and unpredictability to your flights, it encourages checklist discipline, system monitoring, and quick decision-making when things go wrong.
Features
Random Failure Injection: Simulate stuck controls, partial panel outages, engine failures, and more. Probability is calculated based on MTBF* (Mean-time-between-failures).
Automatic Profile Selection: FailControl adapts possible failures and probabilities to your aircraft’s engine type.
Customization: Adapt the settings and probabilities to your liking and save them as a profile.
Phase Modulation: Failure probabilities vary by flight phase (e.g. takeoff, cruise, landing).
Transient Failures: Optional recovery logic lets failures resolve spontaneously.
Manual Control: Trigger or reset failures directly from the UI.
*MTBF: For example, with an MTBF of 20h, expect on average a failure event every 20 hours of flying. Failures can and will happen earlier and much later than the configured MTBF.
Currently Supported Failures
- Engine 1-4 failures
- Turbine 1-4 malfunctions*
- Turbocharger 1-2 failure
- Pitot and Static Port Blockages
- Vacuum, hydraulic and electrical system failures
- Total brake failure
- Fuel Leak L & R
- Stuck Flaps (L, R, all)
- Altimeter and Attitude Indicator faults
*Turbine Malfunction: While Engine Failures are sudden and complete losses of engine power, the turbine malfunction is designed to slowly decrease the turbine N1 and cooling efficiencies. This will lead to engine failure eventually, but gives the pilot time to react and take appropriate action. Limiting the stress on the engine will slow down the degradation. When set to "Can Recover", there is a chance that the degradation will stabilize and not lead to a total engine loss.
What FailControl does and does not
FailControl sends failure events to the sim and alters publicly accessible simulation variables. It does not alter any aircraft files or manipulate the aircraft's flight model directly. Whether a failure works with a specific aircraft depends on how the aircraft developer chose to react to these events and variables. For example, if the aircraft does not listen to the "Electrical Failure Event", triggering an electrical failure will have no effect.
Settings
Auto Start Failure Model: Starts failure injection when MSFS is running.
Failure Profile: Choose from 4 customizable presets.
Auto Profile Selection: Automatically picks a profile based on engine type.
Phase Modulation: Enables flight-phase-based failure weighting.
Getting Started
Extract the .zip to a location of your choice
Run FailControl.exe
Start the Failure Model or trigger failures manually via the failure settings
⚠️ Limitations
Not all aircraft may respond to all failure events — compatibility may vary.
I recommed to test the failures manually for your favorite aircraft before using them in the automatic injection model.

How about failing the engine RPM gauge?
How about failing Garmin G5, Garmin G430 or Garmin G530 / electrical failures?

You should also be able to trigger the failures manually by klicking on the failure name under "Show Settings".
This only works if the Failure Model (random failures) is not running.

If you want to test failures manually, don't start the Failure Model. Instead, click on the failures in the settings panel.

One suggestion (well, really a request), if I may. I would love to see the instrumentation failure expand to engine instruments. For example having the oil pressure indicator fail but without the engine actually losing oil pressure.
Also, can the Turbine Malfunction apply to piston engines as well? With the "Can Recover" feature you could replicate a "partial power" scenario which is definitely possible with piston aircraft. For example cylinder failures, intake pipes coming loose, or blockage in the exhaust system are some causes for those to happen.
Again, great work and I appreciate you putting the effort in to make this for everyone to enjoy!
