    Beschreibung

Explore the White Continent in MSFS 2024!

We aim to provide a complete network of airports, skiways, and helipads across Antarctica. The project currently features 20+ airports and research stations spread across the continent, with many more to come. Expect frequent updates as the scenery continues to expand — our long-term goal is nothing less than bringing the entire Antarctic aviation infrastructure to life in the simulator.

If you would like to further enhance your Antarctic experience, you can explore our other add-ons, which add another 10 Antarctic airports, along with more detailed station scenery.

    Project Goals:

    • Provide a complete network of Antarctic airports as a framework for exploration, bug-hunting, mission building, and future Antarctic scenery enhancements.
    • Build a long-term path toward full Antarctic coverage in MSFS, with the understanding that if Asobo/Microsoft eventually releases an official Antarctica scenery update, this add-on may become obsolete.

     Design Guidelines

    • Add missing Antarctic airports where none exist in default MSFS 2024. The airports in this package are intentionally simplified and somewhat generic, with the focus on breadth rather than depth. The goal is to make the entire continent accessible, rather than focusing on individual locations. For detailed scenery of specific stations or skiways, users should refer to external add-ons dedicated to those sites.
    • Leave stations and terrain mostly as auto-generated scenery to maintain performance and simplicity, and to reduce development effort. This also avoids wasting time on details that may become obsolete if Asobo/Microsoft releases an official Antarctica scenery update in the future.
    • Avoid duplication where an airport is already covered by another add-on. Instead, links to these external packages are provided, as they are often more detailed.

    Manual

    The included PDF manual provides:

    • The full airport list (based on Wikipedia + academic sources)

External Add-ons (Required for Full Antarctic Coverage)

To cover all Antarctic airports listed in the manual, also consider installing the following add-ons:

(These references are provided for informational purposes only. They are not endorsements.)

    Airports Deliberately Not Modeled

A number of Antarctic airfields are intentionally not included — typically because they are permanently closed or abandoned. This is a deliberate choice, not an oversight. The manual lists every excluded site along with the reason.

    Known Issues

There are severe terrain glitches in many areas of Antarctica. These stem from the default terrain data and can only be fixed by Microsoft/Asobo. Wherever possible, corrections have been applied, but some problems remain.

Airports of Antarctica — v0.3.0 now available

    This release focuses on:

    - New station: Marble Point - perfect for a helicopter hop from the McMurdo heliport, straight across McMurdo Sound.
    - Improved immersion: Removed the auto-generated ground vehicles that cluttered the aprons, which is especially noticeable when starting cold and dark at a parking position. If you still encounter auto-generated ground service vehicles, that's a bug — please send me a PM with a short bug report.
    - Reworked older sites: some long-standing gripes finally sorted. Don't expect wonders though, just a few cosmetic fixes and some missing parking spots added.

Full details are in the changelog. More to come.

Note: With this patch, I highly recommend trying a 'cold and dark start' before dawn. Step out onto the ice under a vast, star-strewn sky, the darkness pressing in on all sides, the silence total. Inspect your aircraft by torchlight while the horizon holds nothing but the faintest glimmer of first light, still hours from breaking. In that stillness, surrounded by the empty white expanse, there's a real sense of isolation — like you're the last living soul on a frozen, alien world. It's a small moment, but it's magical.

    Hi,

thanks for the feedback — sorry you're running into trouble.

I checked again and can't reproduce the "no manifest.json" error on my end. Install steps: download, extract, and move the "drgoose-airports-antarctica" folder into your MSFS Community folder.

Can you share more details — when/where exactly does the error show up? Also, have you tried re-downloading the file?

    Anyone else seeing this issue?

Hello, I downloaded this for AT98 and really great job! Inibuilds version is not very good as its lat/long is incorrect. I do notice that the turn off area at the end of RWY 19T has a slope and is unusable. Is that normal?

As of today, I can not reproduce the problem on my system (MSFS2024 Sim Update 5.1).

Can you confirm the problem still exists for you?
Do you have any other scenery add-ons installed that might interfere with the terrain model?
Have you tried removing the inibuilds AT98 scenery?

Can anyone else confirm the terrain issue?

Hello, I found the culprit. I don't have Inibuilds AT98 installed but I have Aerosoft Antarctica Vol 1. Disabling it flattens the surface. Cheers!

Thanks for letting me know and for tracking down the cause. I’ll investigate the compatibility issue further. I don’t currently have Aerosoft Antarctica Vol. 1 installed, although I used to, and my plan to build a complete network of Antarctic skiways relies on compatibility with the Aerosoft add-on.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, but I’ll let you know as soon as I have any news.

I had a bit of unexpected free time this morning, so I installed both Aerosoft Antarctica Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and fired up the simulator.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue on my end. With both Aerosoft add-ons enabled, the terrain around AT98 appears normal at all runway ends.

Could you provide any additional details about your setup? Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Is there NZFX anywhere? You mention it several times but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Currently not, but it's planned for a future update.

Unfortunately, right now I can't dedicate as much time to the continued development of the add-on as I would like to.

If NZFX is requested, I am happy to move this up on the priority list - no promises though.

IS there a way to remove just Wolf's Fang (AT98) from this package now that Inibuilds has a highly detailed version of it for free? They appear to conflict.

    Airports of Antarctica

“Airports of Antarctica” creates a basic network of airports, skiways, and helipads across Antarctica for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This pre-alpha release includes a limited selection of airports, with future updates planned to expand coverage. The add-on prioritizes accessibility across the continent over highly detailed locations. A comprehensive manual accompanies the package, detailing the airports included.

    - Added Marble Point Heliport (ATMP) - All airports: Ground services are now suppressed, which should greatly improve immersion — especially when starting a flight from a parking position. Pushback vehicles should no longer appear when you begin a flight. If you do encounter one, that's considered a bug — please send me a PM on flightsim.to! - Williams Field (NZWD): Added exclusion polygon to suppress the auto-generated street lights and traffic southeast of the airfield (within a 10 km radius) - Phoenix Field (NZFX): Updated ramp positions and ramp type: “RAMP_MIL_CARGO” (West) for C17 at western end and type “RAMP_GA” for small aircraft (such as DC-3 and Twin Otter) at eastern end of apron - Union Glacier (SCGC): Added parking position (GATE_A) for heavy aircraft at start of runway 22 - Zenit Airfield (ATRZ): Added parking positions for heavy aircraft (PARKING 1) and GA aircraft (PARKING 2) - SAXLK: Removed large road bridge northeast of the helipads - ATPI: Reworked the helipad; its visual representation should - Davis Station Heliport & Sea-Ice Skiway (ATDS): o Changed airport name from “Davis Sea-Ice Skiway” to “Davis Station Heliport & Sea-Ice Skiway” o Reworked the helipads; their visual representation should now be much more consistent throughout the Antarctic year o Helipad size reduced from 20 m x 20 m to 13 m x 13 m o It is now possible to take off from all 3 helipads o Previously existing terrain bug seems to have been fixed by Microsoft -> updated the screenshot and description in the manual - Manual: ------------- o Updated Chapter 1: added a section on Levels of Detail (LoDs) for the scenery to clarify project goals and set clear user expectations o Added chapter ‘Acknowledgements’
