    Flight model modification version 1.14.5.0, date 2021-03-13:

    I included "Uwa's lighting mods" from https://uwajimaya.github.io/FS2020/
    Uwajimaya, I credit your work!
    Pack version 1.13 (Feb 16, 2021)

    Using the parameters drag_coef_zero_lift, htail_incidence, thrust_scalar and fuel_flow_scalar the maximum airspeed, (L/D)max and fuel consumption can be set to one operating point OP. I set the OP to no flaps, retracted landing gear, full thrust, level flight, no elevator input and altitude 30000 ft.

    I use the MSFS 2020 documentation from https://docs.flightsimulator.com/html/Samples_And_Tutorials/Defining_A_Flight_Model.htm Citations are in "". Asobo has expanded the documentation, but sadly the documentation is still far away from complete. Asobo please go on!

    To all critics of my work: First, I am an armchair pilot. If you only accept flight model mods from real life 4 stars pilots, don't use it. Second, if you think my mod is atrocious, don't use it. To everybody else: The mod is the best I can do with my knowledge of MSFS 2020. Stay happy and healthy!

    lift_coef_flaps = 1.45380
    Undo the "flight dynamics bug" workaround.

    drag_coef_zero_lift = 0.0271 ; 0.02370
    Bring (L/D)max to a realistic value.

    drag_coef_flaps = 0.15660
    "If the aircraft has flaps you can define the lift and drag coefficients that will be added when the flaps are fully deployed"
    BUT because there is no propeller drag in MSFS 2020 therefore artificial increased gear drag is used as no propeller drag workaround.

    drag_coef_gear = 0.01 ; 0.00500
    "gear drag is usually between 0.005 and 0.01"
    BUT I use artificial gear drag as "no propeller drag" workaround. Therefore a higher value.

    induced_drag_scalar = 1.5 ; 1
    flap_induced_drag_scalar = 1.5 ; 1
    "If you have this value, use it. If not, a value between 1.2 and 1.5 is usually fine. If this value is above 1.5, the plane will generate a lot of drag a slow speed. If the value is closer to 1, it will glide very easily at slow speeds."

    pitch_stability = 0.05 ; 0.25
    roll_stability = 0.05 ; 0.25
    yaw_stability = 0.05 ; 0.25
    "You need to enter a value that is higher than zero for backwards compatibility with the legacy flight model, and you can enter 0.01 - for example - if you want only the minimum friction. If the plane has more inertia, you can enter higher values."

    cruise_speed = 447 ; 455 ; Knots True (KTAS)
    [JET_ENGINE]
    thrust_scalar = 0.85 ; 0.82
    Set cruise speed to Wikipedia documented value.

    ui_autonomy = 7 ; max duration the aircraft can fly between take-off and landing in (Hrs)
    fuel_flow_scalar = 0.9 ; 0.6 ; Fuel flow scalar
    Adjust fuel comsumption to ui_autonomy.

    empty_weight_CG_position = -10.1, 0, -1 ; -9, 0, -1 ; Position of airplane empty weight CG relative to reference datum (FEET), z, x, y
    Move center of gravity to 27% MAC for easier flare.

    point.0 = 1,  27.1, 0,  -9.3,   720, 0, 1.68,  38, 0.555, 2, 0.33, 9,   9.4, 0, 0, 0, 2 ; 1,  27.1, 0,  -9.3,   720, 0, 1.68, 75, 0.555, 2, 0.33, 9, 9.4, 0, 0, 0, 2 ;
    Decrease steering wheel angle for better on ground slow speed maneuvering.

    wing_incidence = 2 ; Wing incidence (DEGREES)
    htail_incidence = 0.3 ; 0 ; Horizontal tail incidence (DEGREES)
    Less (auto) trim needed for design cruise speed Vc level flight.

    fuselage_length = -1 ; 123 ; Nose to tail (FEET)
    Automatic fuselage_length.

    [FLAPS.0]
    flaps-position.1 = 10, 215, 1 ; 10, 215, 0.25 ;
    flaps-position.2 = 15, 200, 1 ; 15, 200, 0.5 ;
    flaps-position.3 = 20, 185, 1 ; 20, 185, 0.75 ;
    [FLAPS.1]
    flaps-position.1 = 18, 215, 1 ; 18, 215, 0.25 ;
    flaps-position.2 = 22, 200, 1 ; 22, 200, 0.5 ;
    flaps-position.3 = 22, 185, 1 ; 22, 185, 0.75 ;
    Redesign flaps drag to have more flaps drag a intermediate flaps settings and less flaps drag in final position.

    crossover_speed = 320 ; Knots Indicated (KIAS) overspeed KIAS?
    crossover speed (the speed at which the maximum rolling force from the aircraft’s ailerons and spoilers is just sufficient to counter the rolling force generated by a full rudder hardover; above this speed, a rudder hardover can be weathered with sufficient yoke input, while below this speed, a rudder hardover will cause an immediate loss of control)

    Summary: "If Asobo only knew what Asobo knows". Some Asobo engineers write documentation and tell everybody what to do and why. Other Asobo engineers write cfg files. As you can see above, these two groups don't talk to each other. Specially not about the induced_drag_scalars and stability parameters.
    Nowhere Asobo writes about the importance of (L/D)max (glide ratio) and how to set a proper (L/D)max. For me is a bad (L/D)max value the single most important reason for poor quality of (Asobo) flight models. Let's see what Asobo will do in the next software release!

    I do not recommend this at all, it is impossible to ascend beyond 35,000 feet, the plane has no power, the ascent is slow, there is no way to change it in the 320 default, and when it descends, it does it like a missile, at 5000 feet per minute, there is no way to change this. I would never recommend it.

    Hey Paul,
    sorry this is a bit out of topic... but do you keep updating your gliders? I like your DG808 but the instruments do not work properly all the time so I switched to the Touching Cloud one. But this is after two Asobo updates almost unflyable (too much lift and sluggish roll behavior).
    Would be nice to see your gliders here some time :)

    Okay. My gliders remain on http://www.andreadrian.de/FS_2020_sailplanes/ because they are converted FSX airplanes. flightsim.to has some strange rules about model ownership - they just ignore the Microsoft "Game Content Usage Rules".
    It will take some days to make DG-808S and Ka6E compatible to 1.14.5.0.

    Thanks for the answer! Looking forward to download the updated glider(s). Too bad they are not allowed for download here, they are really good.

    Please guys, go to Paul's website and try them! :)

    You can download DG808S version 1.14.5.0 now. In my opinion it was not broken, but I gave it an overhaul nevertheless.

    Cool, thanks. I'll give it a try as soon as MSFS starts working again... :/
    The glider wasn't entirely broken, but switching electrics (to reset GPS) didn't work. It stayed on all the time and GPS didn't show home position properly. Looking forward to try it now!

    I only overhauled the flight model. Ian (B21) did do all the instruments work.

    Okay, the electrical issue still exists. I can't turn off the battery so GPS won't reset. But it flies pretty good :)

    on the airbus and Citation, the rudder drifts off centre making the aircraft tilt to keep the track, this happens with and without auto pilot...and only since the last update...

    This was a post from Sicily1918 to the TBM930 about roll (tilt):
    "It does this on the Asobo version, too... this is normal as it's a single-engine (and a powerful one at that) plane so the airframe is rotating opposite of the propeller spin.

    I find that most of the time, a trim adjustment (rocker switch lower-left of throttle) of -0.1 or -0.2 degrees fixes it almost completely, assuming the load on the plane is relatively even."

    The A320 is no "single engine". But please try the roll trim and report if roll trim does fix your A320 problem. Not that we are talking about different topics, you about tilt(?), I about roll.

    Подъемная сила и лобовое сопротивление - Lift-to-drag ratio L / D, это значение, как понять что оно на данной модели flybywire A32NX правильное или нет? Мы ведь это не узнаем, а почувствовать может это только реальный пилот действующий. Я прежде летал в FSX на самолете Як-40 и Ан-24, там летная динамика авторами была приближена к очень реальной, и зависела от всех факторов, от которых должна зависеть, особенно при посадке это чувствовалось, когда только при параметрах и таблицах указанных в руководстве по летной эксплуатации можно комфортно посадить судно, иначе краш или take off

    MSFS 2020 has limitations, that is I can not simulate all details of (L/D)max. But I can use a realistic (L/D)max value within the limitations of MSFS 2020. This is good enough for me. I want that real life pilots flying their airplane the first time in MSFS 2020 can perform a landing - even if it is a hard landing. The Asobo flight models do not allow this.
    I say the correct (L/D)max for A320neo is 16.2. The reason for this is data I have and basic aerodynamics. Look at the (L/D)max picture I put to the screenshots.

    Hello,
    when taxiing on the ground default A320neo, the rudder or wheel is too sensitive on low speeds ( from 1 to approx 15kt ).
    Please, could you do a fix for that to allow a smoother turns at very low speeds ?

    Thank you
    P
    PaulFalkeAuthor

    over 5 years ago

    I changed the steering wheel angle from 75° to 38°. Check it and tell me!
    j

    over 5 years ago

    Hello,
    it's not the max angle limit I meant,
    I use keyboard button to control aircraft on the ground, but it's very sensitive, once I click, the reaction of wheel is too exaggerated and turns fast, and this is more noticeable on very low speeds.
    Once the speed is up , the sensitivity became normal and more realistic.
    I told you if it possible to reduce the sensitivity of the wheel on very low speeds if possible ( 1>20kt) when using keyboard button.

    Thank you again,
    F

    Please keep in mind this ONLY compatible with the default stock A320neo, not the A32NX. We already have the correct fix applied in the A32NX stable and development versions.

    This is correct. My download = 35 Kilobytes. A32NX "stable release" download = 297344 Kilobytes. Summary: both mods are DIFFERENT! And I think you can not install both to have "the best of two worlds" because A32NX is an "all in one" mod.

    I checked at 2021-02-26 the then current "stable release" of A32NX. I found lift_coef_flaps = 1.2. For me this value does not look like "correct fix applied". See therefore my A32NX mod at https://flightsim.to/file/8964/a32nx-flight-dynamics-bug-workaround
