Icelandair is set to welcome its first Airbus A321LR aircraft, registered as TF-IAA, into its fleet by December 2024. This marks a significant transition for the airline, which has traditionally operated Boeing aircraft. The A321LR will replace Icelandair's aging Boeing 757 fleet, retired in October 2024, and is part of the airline's modernization efforts. This aircraft is equipped with advanced Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, offering greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, aligning with Icelandair's sustainability goals.
The A321LR can carry 168 passengers, including 22 in Saga Premium business class, and has a range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km). Its first routes will include European destinations like Copenhagen, Stockholm, and London, before expanding to transatlantic flights, with Seattle being the first U.S. destination starting May 7, 2025.
This new addition represents a pivotal step in Icelandair's strategy to diversify its fleet and enhance its service, offering greater operational flexibility and customer comfort.
