    This package combines my four Mount Rainier fire lookouts, with all the people, helicopters, and effects removed. This was requested by a user who wished to experience the solitude of being alone in a fire watch tower. The original lookouts can be found here:

    Notes on the MSFS 2024 version

    I have made numerous modifications for the 2024 version, including changes to vegetation and terrain. I have also removed the low-res furniture inside the lookouts and added several new interior props, many of which were introduced with 2024. As before, there are no additional libraries required. Every lookout has different interior props, so those who enjoy hanging out inside will have new things to look for in each building! The pictures are all from the 2024 version. I think you will agree that the views from the lookouts in MSFS 2024 are truly stunning!

    The 2020 version is unchanged.

    UPDATE: Version 1.2 -- 

    The MSFS 2024 version is now walk-around compatible. You can walk up the stairs, around the outer porch, and enter the lookout through the door at the top of the stairs. I have also edited the buildings so that no rain or snow will fall inside (although snow does still accumulate inside). These lookouts are wonderful places to watch a thunderstorm, and now you won't get wet!

    The MSFS 2020 version is unchanged.

    UPDATE: Version 1.3 --

    I updated the lookouts in the MSFS 2024 version to be compatible with the new terrain map of World Update 22. WU22 also added the Mount Fremont lookout building, which overlaps my lookout. So, I have removed the WU22 building. The WU22 building is more detailed than mine; if you want to use that one just remove my scenery from your community folder. All of my lookouts can be entered in walk-around mode but, unfortunately, the new WU22 building cannot. Lastly, I fixed the nighttime lighting inside the lookouts, which was broken during one of the recent sim updates.

    The MSFS 2020 version is unchanged.

    Notes

    To install the scenery for MSFS 2024, merely unzip and place the folder titled “mulberrywing-rainier-lookouts-24” in your 2024 community folder. To install the scenery for MSFS 2020, unzip and place the folder titled “mulberrywing-rainier-lookouts” in your 2020 community folder. Both versions are in the same zip file.

    There may be a conflict if you include both this package and any of the original lookouts. Please delete the original lookouts from your community folder before adding this one.

    Gotcha! I tried out all four lookouts with the new National Park scenery. Three of the lookouts are usable, but could use just a tiny bit of tweaking to adjust for the new terrain map. Microsoft has added the Mount Fremont Lookout in the latest update, and it clashes with my building. Their building is much nicer, with beautiful textures (oh to have their resources!) But you can't go up the stairs and enter their building in walk-around mode. So, I will post an update with a few tweaks and I will eliminate their version of the Mount Fremont lookout. If you like theirs better (and it is nice!), just remove my package from your community folder.

    I have posted an update that improves compatibility with the new terrain map in WU22, and removes the WU22 building on Mount Fremont. The older version worked OK, but the two Mount Fremont buildings overlap. I also fixed the nighttime lighting inside the lookouts, which got broken during one of the sim updates.

    This made for a great morning flight around Mt. Rainier in the Savage Grravel. I wasn't able to get my avatar up the lookout at Tolmie Peak but was able to finesse my way up the others. Great work!

    Thanks for letting me know. I used to be able to make stairs accessible by building an invisible ramp with a collision material. Now I seem to have some trouble using this technique. I wonder if there were changes in SU4 that affected this.

    BTW, if you landed a plane on those peaks, I am very impressed!

    Hi GreySkies: You're right -- the building has shifted a small amount. I didn't notice when I checked out each of the lookouts. I put the new building in precisely the same position as the old one, so I'm not quite sure why it has moved. Maybe the Google Map elevation data has changed slightly from when I originally placed the buildings. I don't think it looks too bad. If you're OK with it, I won't update it, since I don't want people to have to download the file again.

    The shift is trivial in my opinion and doesn't bother me.

    I believe you can do a silent update on uploads on this site if you do it as a minor update. I haven't tried it.

    Hi Emery: I think you mean being able to go up the stairs and walk around inside. I haven't tried that yet, but it's a neat idea. Let me see what I can figure out.
