Scotland's North Coast 500 road trip by air - Image 1

    Beschreibung

This bush trip will take you around the far North of Scotland following the popular North Coast 500 route.

I have including lots of points to look out for on the trip and the navlog has a lot of information to guide you around the route.

It would be a good idea to have the navlog on a second monitor or pause occasionaly to read the information.

There are five legs in the trip, the second being the longest, from Wick all the way over and down the West Coast to Plockton. The others are short and I've included a tricky farm strip landing at Knockbain.

I've done this one in the  Icon A5. I thought that in case the Wick to Plockton leg was too long or you fancied stopping and exploring with the drone, then you could put it down on one of the many sea lochs.

To install just unpack and add the folder into your community folder.

Knowing how unsettled the Scottish weather can be, I've ordered in a bucket of sunshine for your trip!
    Enjoy the North Coast 500!

Yaaay! Finished it. Had a cracking sleep in the Icon overnight. Sent the wife out for breakfast. LOL

I spend most of my time flying around the Scottish west coast as it is seriously beautiful IRL and in the Sim!

By the way, this was the mod I meant to post (by the same guy) It adds the autopilot to the stock Icon.

I'll now go and do the rest of your bush trips. Thanks again!

By the way, for anyone wanting to do this I would seriously recommend the superb Icon mod by PharoahSteve that adds some more power to the icon and especially... An autopilot! Something I find crucial for long flights like this!

I'm glad your enjoying the fresh night air in Bettyhill. I didn't have that mod when I did this. I have it now but haven't tried the icon yet with it. I didn't get VR until after I did the trip and need to do the West Coast again with it. You're in for a treat down the West Coast.

Another of your bush trips I'm thoroughly enjoying! Thanks very much!

I started it after work late tonight (flying in VR of course) and was getting tired just after Dounreay so found a small sheltered inlet (by a village called Bettyhill) and did a water landing there. Anchored the Icon up for the night and sent the wife ashore in the dinghy for groceries and beer. Using the Icon is a brilliant choice for this bush trip!

Thankfully, being early February, it's high summer here in Scotland so a very cosy and calm evening beering up and sleeping in the Icon.

    To be continued tomorrow!

Unfortunately, the challenge of trying to land on an airfield with no visible markings (Dornoch), using an aircraft with no visible heading indicator to guess runway heading with, defeated me and I ended up stuck in a field and unable to move. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the first leg, but I can't proceed. (I actually went back and tried flying circuits by aiming for the hut, but still ended up in what appears to be gorse bushes and stuck even right next to it!)

Sorry that you're having difficulty. I thought Dornoch strip was easy to spot. Here's a link to a few photos that should help you to locate it

Just wanted to say thank you. What a great Bush Trip. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for the hard work you must have put in to plan it and create it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the facts and the descriptions, though I did find stages 18-21 of the Wick to Plockton leg a little hard to work out. I probably didn't do it quite right, but it was completed and it didn't spoil my enjoyment. Thanks again. I must now do your Highland Tour!

Thanks very much for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I take what you mean about 18 - 21, I think I'll amend it. I'm currently working on a tour of my home patch and a tour of the Speyside whisky trail. I'm looking to have this guide narrated. Look out for it

Hi Hawkeye, about to embark on this wee tour shortly myself. I've family up in Wick so will be great to give them a fly-by. Btw I'm actually doing some portfolio work for the radio so if you want a hand with some voice-over's I'd be love to try out some lines of dialog - would be an awesome one to add to the CV anyway! Here's a link to one of my shows on Spotify to see if you think I could be of any asssistance! https://open.spotify.com/episode/3ekORQ52BhBDJclwgh9OsB?si=0YbrQYU3R1CUa1nEFBXNNQ

No pressure then. It would be great for you to correct any inaccuracies I have. I know that whole area very well from working all over the north 20 years ago. I need to get back up. It's beautiful country
