North Weald Bassett aerodrome was established in the summer of 1916 and was used by the Royal Flying Corps.

In WW2, Hawker Hurricanes were deployed to the airfield, alongside Bristol Blenheim night fighters. The Hurricanes from North Weald saw action over the beaches of Dunkirk and played a key role in the Battle of Britain. In 1940, two American Eagle Squadrons moved into North Weald flying Spitfires.

Following the war, jet fighter squadrons were based at North Weald. The sight of Gloster Meteors and de Havilland Vampire fighters in the west Essex skies was commonplace from 1949.

The last front line combat unit was No. 111 Squadron flying Hawker Hunters, the famous Black Arrows, and they left North Weald in 1958. In 1964 the RAF withdrew from the airfield completely.

North Weald is now a general aviation airfield with just over 20,000 movements per annum, connecting people from London and Essex with destinations across England and abroad.

North Weald is now home to several vintage and veteran aircraft, such as the Spitfire, Mustang, Kittyhawk, Dakota, Skyraider, Seafire and Harvard, and is also home to early ex-military jets such as the Hunter, Venom, Vampire, Gnat and Jet Provost.

Thank you for doing this. I would also like to see a current day version. Maybe just kick out all the old jets. Guess it will otherwise not be too different.

I asked for this airfield and you did it. Never took the opportunity to thank you for the hard work Tag21. This means a lot to me as this is where I did my first solo flight (my school was based at Elstree but North Weald and a longer/safer runway. Good work man!

If you have the basics of the airfield, would be really nice to have a secondary option to have the airfield modelled as it is today.

Well done on this scenery; my only suggestion is where you have placed those jets is where all of the ambulances and other emergency vehicles are parked. Also, there is no Essex police helicopter base nor the Air ambulance helicopter. Another important feature is the North Weald flying group base is now. I thought I'd mention this for your next update, but well done and thank you.
