Indooroopilly Bridges (featuring the Walter Taylor Bridge) - Image 1

    Beschreibung

The Walter Taylor Bridge is a heritage-listed suspension bridge crossing the Brisbane River between Indooroopilly and Chelmer in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is shared by motor traffic and pedestrians and is the only habitable bridge in the Southern Hemisphere.

The bridge was conceived, designed, built and funded by local visionary Walter Taylor. It is a suspension bridge and the support cables were actually surplus cables used to hold up the incomplete halves of the Sydney Harbour Bridge during its construction. When the bridge opened it had the longest span of any suspension bridge in Australia.

The bridge was opened on 14 February 1936 by the Governor of Queensland, Sir Leslie Wilson, with the final cost (anchorage to anchorage) coming to £85,000. The bridge was operated as a toll bridge until the 1960s, with a toll collection booth located at the Northern (Indooroopilly) end. During that time, the bridge was known as the "Indooroopilly Toll Bridge".

After Walter Taylor's death in 1955, the bridge was renamed the Walter Taylor Bridge in his honour in 1956.

This addon features the Walter Taylor Bridge, the Indooroopilly Railway Bridge and the Albert Bridge in game. I will be adding the last bridge (and something else) in a future version.

    Good news everyone!

I had already solved my video RAM error in MSFS (it wasn't an addon causing it), but it took a video card upgrade to my PC during the week before I found the motivation to finish the final bridge. I've started adding to the test model I started about a year and a half ago and I'm making good progress on finishing it.

Update: The Jack Pesch Bridge is about 70% complete, however I've hit a slight snag. The way I've built this bridge is causing a 10-20 fps hit on my system. WAAAY too much! Unlike the other bridges, the Jack Pesch Bridge is more open and I have built the railing on both sides which comes with a LOT of polygons (3 times more triangles than the other 3 bridges combined). I'm coming up with some ideas on how to reduce this frame drop, but it's going to take longer than originally planned.

Update 2: I've come up with an acceptable solution that replaces the fence rods with a metal rod texture. I still need to test it a little further in-game to see if the texture is noticeably different from the fence rods I already built (I don't think it will be) but that will mean I need to replace the 5,000 or so rods.

Once again, other hobbies have taken up my time (I play other games you know) and after the highly anticipated release of Sim Update 10 I thought I'd see how things are for the bridges.

Well, the photogrammetry of the Indooroopilly bridges added in World Update 7: Australia was absolute garbage. I didn't make the bridges to be outdone by that! So, I've updated the addon to remove the photogrammetry bridges and show mine instead.

That has caused some issues however, flying under the Walter Taylor is no longer possible and the Indooroopilly Riverwalk (which also has photogrammetry now) has had its entire section under the bridges removed as well. Regardless, my addon makes the bridges look considerably better than the photogrammetry.

I've also been having some crashing in MSFS that has something to do with a VRAM issue. I don't think my addon is the cause as it has happened without my added installed, but I've left the previous version 3.1 available in case.

Let's hope it doesn't take another year for the next update!

I've been busy with other hobbies over the last 7 months so I have not spent any time in Flight Sim at all. I only found out about the next World Update today.

We will see what happens with the World Update Australia tomorrow and whether I need to make any adjustments, or if the bridges are added to the base game this mod will become superfluous. I know Brisbane will be getting some love, so we'll see how much love it receives.

It works fine with WU7 and SU8 :)

People are still living in this bridge. Whenever I drive over it, there is usually some laundry drying on the balcony near the middle windows :)

Just an update on the next major version: The Albert Bridge.

Real-life has been eating up a lot of my spare time in the last week and a bit. The next bridge is progressing, but much more slowly than I would like (I've even got a test model built for the Jack Pesch Bridge going on as well). Fret not, real-life should give way to spare time soon-ish and I'll get back to working on the last two bridges, plus a something else related to the bridges.

I expect that by the time I get around to finishing what I have planned for the bridges, Asobo will have fixed the problem. If not, I'll take a look.

Totally agree. This all started for me when I decided to do something about the houses on the Western Freeway. Nobody else was, so I stepped up and here I am.

Thanks for this. I used to drive across this every week. It's not even on the ORBX Brisbane scenery.

It's disappointing that these bridges were not included in the Orbx Brisbane package, but even if they were, there should be a freeware version as well.

Rebuilt using the latest SDK. Marked as Compatible with Sim Update 10. Made some minor rotation changes to line up the bridges based on new satellite ground data provided in World Update 7: Australia back in January. Removed the (IMO extremely poor) photogrammetry bridges added in World Update 7 as well.
