Settings.ini- Run
Landing Guide.exe.
The application connects to MSFS automatically and retries every five seconds. It can be started before or after the simulator.
Main HUD
Flight Data
- GS / IAS: Click the left title to switch between Ground Speed and Indicated Airspeed.
- RA / ALT: Click the right title to switch between Radio Altitude and Indicated Altitude.
- inHG / HPA: Click the pressure display to change pressure units.
- WND: Displays wind speed.
- FPA: Displays Flight Path Angle.
- FPM: Displays vertical speed in feet per minute.
- AOA: Displays the current Angle of Attack and its position on a
+30° to -30°scale. - Aircraft symbol: Changes automatically according to the detected aircraft category.
- Wind arrow: Displays wind direction relative to the aircraft track.
Selected GS/IAS, RA/ALT, and inHG/HPA modes are saved immediately and restored at the next launch.
Wind Colors
The wind arrow and WND value change color according to wind severity:
- Yellow: normal or moderate wind
- Orange: increased wind
- Red: strong wind or higher crosswind risk
Aircraft weight and engine type are used to select suitable wind limits automatically.
Dynamic Altitude Scale
The altitude tape interval changes according to altitude:
- Below 100 ft: 5 ft
- Below 1,000 ft: 10 ft
- Below 10,000 ft: 20 ft
- 10,000 ft and above: 50 ft
Below 100 Feet
Below 100 ft RA, the HUD expands downward and adds:
- Large radar-altitude display
- Angle of Attack scale and current value
- Connection and recording status bar
Above 100 ft, this approach section is hidden and the window returns to its compact height.
On the Ground
After touchdown, the large RA display changes to LONGITUDINAL G.
Use this value to monitor braking smoothness. Try to keep longitudinal acceleration below approximately 0.30 G during normal braking. Negative values indicate deceleration.
Window Controls
- SET: Opens the settings panel.
- LOG: Opens or closes the flight log.
- _ button: Switches to the compact LG mini window.
- Square button: Restores the main HUD to 100% size.
- X: Exits Landing Guide.
- Corner handles: Drag a corner to resize the HUD proportionally.
- Window drag: Move the HUD by dragging its background.
- Aircraft symbol: Double-click to enter or leave mini mode.
The resized HUD position and scale are saved and restored at startup.

The bottom status bar is visible in both compact and expanded HUD modes.
- CONNECT: Green indicator when SimConnect is connected; red when disconnected.
- Center: Displays recording state, recording-stop countdown, or active warning messages.
- OBS: Shown when OBS Studio is running.
- Warning messages blink in red even when the separate Alert Window option is disabled.
Landing Rate Window
The Landing Rate window slides in from the right after touchdown and displays:
- Landing rate in FPM
- Touchdown G-force
- Bounce count
- Wind speed and direction
- Crosswind component
- IAS
- AOA
- Bank angle
- Crab angle
- Landing rating
- A 20-second approach graph showing Radio Altitude and FPM
The window includes a 10-second close countdown. Click the countdown to pause it. Use the > button to close the window manually.
Simple Mode
Simple mode displays only:
- Landing FPM
- Touchdown G-force
- Landing rating
The Simple option is available only when Landing Rate Window is enabled.
Landing Ratings
- EXCELLENT:
-200 FPMor softer - GOOD:
-201 to -350 FPM - ACCEPTABLE:
-351 to -500 FPM - HARD:
-501 to -700 FPM - CRASH: Below
-700 FPM
These ratings are general guidance only. Suitable touchdown rates vary by aircraft type, weight, runway condition, and operating procedure.
Helicopter landings are also detected. After landing, climbing above 20 ft and remaining airborne for one second rearms helicopter landing detection.
Alert System
Alerts are suppressed when no flyable aircraft has been spawned, while the simulation is stopped or paused, and while the aircraft is on the ground.
Warnings also appear in the HUD status bar even if the separate Alert Window is disabled.
Fixed-wing Alerts
- STALL RISK: AOA reaches the configured threshold below 2,000 ft RA.
- SINK RATE: Vertical speed exceeds the configured descent limit between 10 and 1,000 ft RA.
- HARD LDG: Touchdown rate is below the configured hard-landing threshold.
- OVERSPEED: Landing ground speed exceeds the configured limit.
Default configurable values:
- Stall AOA:
12° - Approach sink rate:
-1,500 FPM - Hard landing:
-600 FPM - Landing overspeed:
160 knots - Alert duration:
5 seconds
Helicopter Alerts
- LOW ROTOR RPM: Rotor monitoring is armed after RPM remains between 90% and 110% for two seconds. A warning is then generated between 5% and 90%.
- ROTOR OVERSPEED: Rotor RPM exceeds 110% after monitoring has been armed.
- HIGH TORQUE: Engine torque exceeds 100%.
- VRS RISK: IAS below 30 knots, descent below
-500 FPM, and RA between 20 and 1,000 ft. - SINK RATE: Descent below
-1,000 FPMbetween 10 and 300 ft RA. - BANK ANGLE: Bank exceeds 30° between 5 and 100 ft RA.
Rotor RPM below 5% is treated as an inactive or invalid rotor state and does not trigger LOW ROTOR RPM.
Automatic Recording
Landing Guide can send recording hotkeys to OBS, NVIDIA App, or another recording application.
Settings include:
- Auto Record on/off
- Start Below RA
- Recording start hotkey
- Recording stop hotkey
Automatic Operation
- Climb at least 50 ft above the configured Start Below RA value.
- Landing Guide enters the armed state.
- Descend through the configured RA while descending.
- The start hotkey is sent.
- After touchdown, a 10-second countdown begins.
- The stop hotkey is sent when the countdown reaches zero.
Manual use of the configured start and stop hotkeys also updates the HUD recording status. A manually started recording remains active until the user enters the stop hotkey.
Hotkey inputs capture combinations such as ALT+F9 without passing them to the recording application while editing Settings.
Important: Depending on the recording application and its privilege level, Landing Guide may need to run as Administrator for hotkeys to be delivered correctly.
Settings
The SET panel provides:
- Glass opacity from 0% to 100%
- Alert Window on/off
- Landing Rate Window on/off
- Simple landing-rate mode
- Auto Record on/off
- Start Below RA
- Recording start hotkey
- Recording stop hotkey
Settings are stored in Settings.ini and applied automatically at startup. Closing Settings returns keyboard focus to MSFS.
Flight Logging
Logs are stored in the Logs folder beside the executable.
Landing Log
landings_YYYYMMDD_HHmmss.csv contains:
- Arrival airport
- Timestamp
- FPM
- Touchdown G-force
- Bounce count
- GS and IAS
- Wind speed and direction
- Crosswind
- AOA
- Bank angle
- Crab angle
- Aircraft category
- Landing rating
If the arrival airport cannot be identified, ---- is shown in the Log Viewer.
Approach Data
approach_YYYYMMDD_HHmmss.csv stores up to 20 seconds of pre-touchdown data used to reconstruct the landing graph.
Warning Log
warnings_YYYYMMDD_HHmmss.csv contains warning type, value, timestamp, and details.
Session Summary
session_YYYYMMDD_HHmmss.txt contains total landings, hard landings, best FPM, and average FPM.
Header-only files are deleted automatically. Old records are cleaned when Landing Guide starts, and the newest 100 landing and warning entries are retained.
Log Viewer
The integrated Flight Log provides:
- Landing and warning tabs
- Latest 100 records
- Arrival airport display
- Refresh button
- Per-row delete button
- Resizable window with saved dimensions
Double-click a landing row to reopen the Landing Rate window using its saved touchdown data and 20-second approach graph. The existing Landing Rate window is updated instead of creating another window.

- i cannot see the log button, but it could be it started in mini mode, i'll check it later;
- no logs folder;
- why the 1.5.1 weighs a whopping 66 MB, while the 1.4 was only 240 kB?

The absence of log files suggests two primary causes: permission conflicts or DLL/Runtime issues. To resolve this, please double-check the following two requirements:
Run as Administrator
Install VC++ Redistributable
I have just released v1.3.4 with an upgraded logging system. This version includes a 'Global Error Trap' that force-writes logs even during a sudden crash. Please try running the new version (as Administrator, just in case) and check the app folder for 'ErrorLog.txt'. This will be the key to fixing the MSFS 2024 compatibility issue once and for all.

Install the Visual C++ Redistributable: First, please download and install the Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) from the official Microsoft link below:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2015-vc-140-no-longer-supported
Run as Administrator: If the problem persists after installation, please right-click the application and select "Run as administrator".
I have uploaded a new version so that extracting the file will now create a folder named "LandingGuide." To uninstall, simply delete the entire folder.
Please note that the window will appear only after the aircraft begins moving. If you encounter any issues, please provide me with some brief information, and I will make sure to fix it.
In version 1.3.1, a message box should now pop up upon an unexpected crash. Please report back if this feature is not working properly.
