Half Moon Bay Airport, officially known as Eddie Andreini Sr. Airfield (ICAO: KHAF, IATA: HAF), is a public-use airport located in San Mateo County, California, approximately 20 miles south of San Francisco. The airport was constructed in 1942 by the California State Highway Department for the U.S. Army as an auxiliary airfield for Salinas Army Air Base, initially known as Half Moon Bay Flight Strip. It was authorized on October 15, 1942, as a sub-base of Salinas Army Air Base, with construction managed by the Division of Highways, California Department of Public Works.
The airfield supported the training of light observation and reconnaissance squadrons and conducted coastal patrols during World War II. In January 1944, the site was transferred to the Air Technical Service Command and garrisoned by the 4159th Army Air Forces Base Unit (Air Base), which operated it for emergency landings, transient aircraft, and training missions. On June 1, 1945, the War Department issued a five-year permit to the U.S. Navy to operate the site as "Outlying Field, Half Moon Bay," using it to support target towing services for the Anti-Aircraft Training Center at Point Montara.
Following the end of World War II, the U.S. Navy terminated its permit on March 5, 1946, and returned control to the War Department. The site was declared excess to military needs in August 1946 and placed under the custody of the War Assets Administration (WAA). On September 26, 1947, the WAA quitclaimed the 217.68-acre tract to the County of San Mateo, and the Public Roads Administration conveyed its 110.66-acre tract to the county on the same day, completing the transfer of the airport to public ownership. San Mateo County acquired the airport for public use, and it has remained a public-use airport since then.
The airport has served various roles over the years, including emergency services such as air ambulance and Medevac flights, law enforcement and homeland security patrols, Coast Guard sea-rescue operations, and use as a disaster relief staging site during emergencies. It is also home to approximately 80 aircraft and several aviation-related businesses. In December 2015, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors renamed the airport in honor of Eddie Andreini Sr., a renowned air show pilot and longtime community leader, though it remains officially registered as Half Moon Bay Airport with the FAA.
The airport features a single asphalt/concrete runway, 12/30, measuring 5,000 feet by 150 feet (1,524 meters by 46 meters), and covers 325 acres (132 hectares). It is open 24 hours a day and handles between 40,000 and 60,000 aircraft operations annually, primarily general aviation flights. The airport was temporarily closed in 2023 for runway repaving, repairs, and improvements to drainage, lighting, and signage, with work completed by October 2023.

It turns out turning off the Airport Services (ground crew) also breaks the ability to use Gliders. Version .9 I did the testing I never did before and I found that I like not having a ground crew in my small general aviation airports. Having to drive through them is immersion breaking. So going forward Ive got some bad news for the Glider pilots. If you want your full glider experience at my airport then dont use my addons. Sorry. Another option is configure the Services.xml yourself (by reading the sdk manual) and send it to me and I can compile it for general use as long as I dont see ground crew every flight, lol.. That would fall to my 2028 priority list of reading the sdk manual because I dont do gliders unless the motor breaks, lol.. Its not 1890,
