HISTORY OF PALMEIRA DAS MISSIONS AIRPORT
Comandante Kraemer Airport was opened in 1962, on an area of 40 hectares. At the time, the track was only 1,200 meters long and was made of dirt. The objective was to meet the needs of agricultural aviation in the region, which at the time was already quite developed.
Over the years, the airport was modernized and expanded. In 1975, the runway was paved and extended to 1,600 meters. In 1996, a new passenger terminal was built, with capacity for up to 100 people. And in 2010, the runway was expanded again, reaching its current 1,800 meters.
Today, Comandante Kraemer Airport is managed by the Municipality of Palmeira das Missões and receives regular flights from some airlines, in addition to general and agricultural aviation operations.
