ADK1 was my first introduction into scenery editing. The runway on top of the ore pile has wind fences on the East and West side to prevent tipping on approach from the North. Two cranes represent an attempt to reconstruct the minesite that once existed here. Local history is rich in this area. Lyon Mountain’s ore is some of the purest in the world - it was used to build the Golden Gate Bridge. The mine itself was one of the deepest in North America, with its deepest shaft reaching 3100 feet. The ore was first mined from the surface in the 1860s, then quickly went underground. The population skyrocketed to nearly 3,500 people at its peak, as small settlements sprung up around the mining operation. During World War II, it was the largest employer in Clinton County. Today Lyon Mountain has fewer than 500 residents, and the mine - Chateaugay Ore & Iron Company, run by Republic Steel starting in 1939 - was closed in 1967. You can, however, still see piles of tailings on the mountain, and the Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum has a plethora of old photos, tools, and machinery from when the mines were cranking.
Disclaimer:
I did not create the models, assets, and any libraries used in the creation of this airstrip/airport. A big thank you to the 3D artists that made these models available for us to use for free!
If you have downloaded some of my previous sceneries, you should be ok, but just double check and make sure the libraries are up to date; and then replace the older version.
Installation:
Just unzip into your community folder, or if you use addons linker just link it from wherever you have installed your scenery.
Very Important: You need to have the following libraries for the sceneries to display correctly, I know its alot and a big inconvenience, but it will be worth it as many scenery developers use them, be sure to check back on them for updates.
All MSFS 2020 world updates

Very cool! For those wondering what state this is in for addon linker organization, Bing chat replies..
According to my web search, ADK1 is not an official airport code, but a custom airstrip created by a user for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It is located on top of a pile of iron ore in Lyon Mountain, New York, and represents a lost mining site that operated from 1939 to 19671.
