A fine place to stop off for your transatlantic hopping. After an eternity this is officially in the sim so this is now an upgrade of the existing site.
All ground textures disposed of. New ground markings added. Fencing all over. Light applied where it counts. Detail aplenty thrown down.
This has a new taxi system. There are two helicopter parking spots - 100 and 101. There is also a hangar start inside the Atlantic Airways hangar which is space number 6.
On the main apron spaces 3-5 are large GA with a full set of ground services. There's also all the fuel you can scoff.
You may thank Simon Nordendal of Azurafiles for very generously granting permission to use the Vagar custom buildings he made for his payware versions for FSX and P3D. These definitely tie the joint together.
He also supplied a mountain of reference photos to improve this version.

Uh oh.... i'm back!
I'm afraid i might have found a pretty strange issue. I initially thought this was a fenix thing, but now i have seen it in the PMDG 738 also. When loaded up at the gate, im getting this weird graphical glitch in rainy conditions, where the misty rain effects seem to get masked out by something. Some buildings/hangers seems to masked fully out and therefore stand out alot. Pictures showing what im trying to convey: https://imgur.com/a/94Kw8oT
Haven't seen this before, so perhaps some weird bug going on here with the scenery somehow 🤔

It's from a weather exclusion box added to certain buildings. It somehow clashes with aeroplane windshield materials, or they highlight each other for some reason.
You'd think they would've sorted it out by now. I'll give it one more sim update and if it isn't gone by then the building occupants will just have to get wet instead.

One question: is it normal or a non standard feature of this airport that the first 1/3 of the runway lights (not the approach lights) to RWY12 are not visable until reaching a certain pitch angle or does it have to do with way the simulator handles the runway slope angle?

The runway lights blaze constantly for miles 24/7, much to the annoyance of some developers, so that will be to do with the profile of the runway affecting their visibility.

Have to add to this and say i've noticed the papis and start of the runway lights wont render until im basically near the threshold, only for RWY12.
I went and fiddled with the dev camera, i found that to combat this, you have to go to the airport in drone cam, let it load the papis along with some runway lights and then they wont pop in on final. (if you are within the max render distance when you do this) The render distance seems to be around where mykennes starts - to rwy 12. Does asobo let you play with these things, since i think it didn't always used to be like this, perhaps they changed something?

Not sure if a fluke on my end, but after the recent update to this addon im getting some bumps on the runway i haven't felt before. Anyone else?
Regardless of that, great job on the update, looks really good.

Hmm. I did go down it once post-update and it did seem lumpier than before.
I haven't changed any of the terraforming so that's mysterious. I'd better check when I'm at an install again.

Yup. Looks like I deleted the rectangle that smooths the runway and it's just DEM bending it now. I'll tweak a couple of other things and update tomorrow.
You get 71,429 points for highlighting this. I don't know what the points do, or who issues them.

Great airport! However one small this is the gates are too small for AIG to assign AI aircraft. Any chance of increasing the gate radius at all?

Because the apron is so small I reduced the parking space radius to 14 or 15 metres to stop huge airliners appearing and overlapping each other.
They are still large GA spaces but you only see medium AI planes. I will experiment and see what it looks like.

Love this scenery and the Islands! Q: is there any way to get this amazing airport to work with some of the great DEMs?

The DEM in this file should overpower all the other DEMS out there which means it should work fine with them.
You can give terraforming a priority which will override any other information so I made my own DEM with a very high priority which should kill off the airport area in other DEM files.
I was in contact with some of the DEM developers and we just couldn't get the airport to work with their elevations. Runways create all sorts of strange behaviour and they have no control over that.
I don't remember testing it though so maybe it won't. Give it a try. If it doesn't then I don't think there's anything else I can do.

You are a true artist, Sir...and a pro ! of all the small handmade international airports existing in freeware; this is ma favourite ALL time !! That sloped rwy, with one end appearing slowly while accelerating gives such a depth and realism to the scenery...Breathtaking!
And when landing, the rwy comes faster due to that curved parabolic shape of it. One has to flare a bit earlier, not mentionning the loc offset by 14°. Add to that the extreme, almost dramatic North Atlantic weather and you have a even challenging airport as Lukla or Madeira!
BTW....Flamingos on the rwy ?!? these could seriously damage an A20N !!!!!!

Did I leave a flamingo? This is bad. I was measuring heights with it because it's a very practical bird.

aaaw, that explains the flamingos LOL....just redownloade your scenery jewel. I'll give it a try in a moment. To be honest, I've seen wayyyy worse or more annoying "mistakes" than this one. At least it was "funnily unexpected", and didn't crash the plane because recognised as a solid foreign object; as i had with trees along the taxiways in LFPG, due to the last world update, that added excessively many trees arround and at airports !

Terraforming is very imprecise and I had to spend many extra hours cleaning up the DEM. No doubt there'll be some bumps left over.
When you adjust one thing, something else breaks elsewhere. The main problem has always been where the runway meets the taxiway and that can't really be improved.
I'll have another try now and see if I can refine it further.

Works fine for me. As far as I remember no scenery has ever been broken by a sim update for me so I don't get why these signs are all over them.
It's world updates that are the real murderers.
