A large non-swimming water bird found in freshwater along coastal regions, the heron is known for its dagger-like bill and long legs. Herons hunt by sitting or standing motionless on the water waiting for prey to be in range, and then quickly straightening their S-shaped neck to capture the prey. Herons are excellent flyers, reaching speeds of up to 48 mph. Most herons are at least partially migratory, giving you a chance to see these beautiful birds all over the world (except Antarctica).
