The bog turtle is the state reptile of New Jersey. Hudson is named after the Hudson Valley in New York where the bog turtle thrived in the once numerous wetlands.
During colder months, bog turtles hibernate underwater in deep areas of bogs in up to 18 inches of mud. And, they can live up to 40 years.
