This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default Asobo Icon A5 aircraft, primarily aimed at making the aircraft flight model and overall performance more closely match the actual aircraft, providing a much closer experience to flying the real aircraft. Multiple changes have been made to the flight model parameters, and to the aircraft weight and balance, which are detailed in the included Change Log and README file. This beautifully modelled, uniquely versatile aircraft is a lot of fun and very easy to fly, and learning to fly it properly utilizing the unique AOA panel gauge can be a highly satisfying experience, and will also make you a much better pilot.
This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping and copying the mge-asobo-aircraft-icon folder to the MSFS Community folder. It will then replace the existing default Icon A5 aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and it will also continue to utilize all of the existing available Liveries. To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder. A detailed description of all of the changes and improvements included in this mod, as well as a full PDF copy of the Icon A5 POH, can be found under the Documentation folder.

Is this compatable with the HPG Icon A5 Performance Edition? Your mod looks great 😊
1 years ago
No... This is a modification of the default ICON A5, and it will conflict with any other mod that changes the same default aircraft configuration files.

I don't know what it is, but I had to manually paste the content into the icon folder, since then it's been working...
Maybe an incompatibility with another mod.
if i know more i will let you know.

Do you think you can replace the screen with the G3X touch display?
Or is there a way to use the screen from the icon a5 performance mode with your flight model? Cheers, great mod btw, I really enjoy it, but it would be grea to have the G3X as an option.

Unfortunately, I can't change the 3-D model or panel instruments.

Hi Michael, I have a request:
As I enjoy the smooth landing behaviour on water with ICON A5, I want to ask you if it is possible to create a mod for the Cessna 172 Amphibian (Asobo or even the mod from Bagolu) just to eliminate that bouncing on water landing.
I think some time ago you explained to me that you added some contact points for the hull of the A5, so maybe this is also possible for the floats of the 172?
Thank you very much in advance!

I'll take a look at it...

Tip of the Day: To quickly determine the radio frequencies for any airport or Navaid along your route, just open the VFR Map (V) and click on it! This great new feature was added in SU10.

Tip of the Day: This is a relatively slow aircraft, and it can take a long time to reach a remote destination you want to explore, like a remote island. But, once you are on the correct course you can easily shorten the required flight time by just pressing [Y] to enter SLEW mode. Then press [8] (Up Arrow) on the NUM PAD to move the aircraft location forward, and press [Y] again to exit SLEW mode and resume normal flight.

thanks for this and your savage cub mod. And thanks for including documentation. Hope you make more like this for Asobo's lacking aircraft

Tip of the day: Here is a tip for avoiding excessive turbulance in MSFS... Don't fly using the CLEAR weather preset, because the clear sunny skies actually generates much more thermal updraft turbulance when over land than any of the other presets with clouds. The OVERCAST preset has the least thermal updraft turbulance.

mge-asobo-aircraft-icon, i can not found this in content.xml is it ok?

Yes, it is OK... This is only a modification of the existing default Asobo aircraft, and is not an additional new aircraft.

Thanks for the update! Question, is it just me or does the AOA Indicator always stay at bottom green? Having a hard time flying the white line, indicator always sits at the bottom green and even when climbing after takeoff it quickly goes up but then rests back down at the bottom. I can get the indicator in the yellow but cannot get it to stay there, even though I hold the AOA and airspeed. Is this a problem with the default Icon as well? Cheers!

You must use the elevator trim control to set and hold the AOA gauge at the correct point for the phase of flight you are in. For a Runway start the trim defaults to 30% down, which is the T/O mark on the trim gauge and near the bottom of the green band on the AOA gauge. After takeoff, press and hold the UP trim button on the cockpit stick, or on your external Joystick, until the AOA gauge remains at the desired setting with the stick at neutral. The green line is the normal climbout setting. Then use the throttle to control your climb or descent rate.
The PILOTS NOTES file under the Documents folder has the correct settings for each phase of flight. You can see the actual trim percentage setting by enabling the COCKPIT HUD option on the ASSITANCE OPTIONS / USER EXPERIENCE settings screen.

Just wondering, would it be possible for you to enable the ability to click on both doors in order to remove them? That would be awesome if we could fly with the doors off!

I agree that it would be great if the windows could be removed like on the real aircraft... but unfortunately, I don't currently have the ability to modify the 3D model.

@ MGouge425,
Excellent stuff...
Don't forget to update the version number in the manifest.json file.
Here it shows version number 1.9.0, but shows 0.1.72 in the manifest.
ALSO;
"creator": "Asobo Studio",
As it pertains to this mod, and not the default aircraft, it should really be:
"creator": "MGouge425",
Thanks for the great work...

Can someone tell me exactly what file goes in the community folder. After I unzipped it I put it in the folder....nothing. I opened it found another folder put it in there....nothing. I checked after every time. No autopilot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
2 years ago
The folder that goes in the Community folder is named: mge-asobo-aircraft-icon. You can tell it is installed properly by the changed aircraft name that appears in the aircraft selection screen, and by the changed default tail number.
The autopilot functions and operation are described in the Pilots Notes file found under the Documents folder. The autopilot functionality is provided by the default MSFS autopilot commands only, and has not been modeled by Asobo as a separate unit in the cockpit. No changes to the default Asobo 3D aircraft model have been made in this mod.
