Since 1960 eight F-104B and six F-104D Starfighters have been used by the Taiwanese Air Force of which the remaining aircraft flew their operational missions well into the eighties.
lt all started in 1960 when the 8th TFS of the 3rd TFW (3 Air Group) received five F-104B two-seat Starfighters as training aircraft together with the received 22 single seat F-104A Starfighter.
This is the First one, No.4101& 4103.
This project was called “Ali Mountain No.1”. The Starfighters stayed in use until 1966 and given back to the USAF after being replaced by the more modern TF-104G version.
Two F-104B had been lost in accidents during the 7 years of operation at CCK AB.
All aircraft stayed in service until their retirement in 1988.

Thank you for this unusual livery!
By 1967 Taiwan had received the F-104 Starfighter and they used them well.
Two such aircraft were on a reconnaissance mission, on the way back to base, the Starfighters were attacked by a group of MiG-19s. Two enemy planes were shot down before heading back to Taiwan — but Major Yang Ching-tsung (楊敬宗), one of the pilots somehow disappeared on the way home. He was never heard from again.
This was the first and last time ROC Starfighters shot down chinese MiG 19"s.
