The bma-LICC-Catania-v3 folder contains an extensive update to the old release v2, uploaded a couple of years ago. 

Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (IATA: CTA, ICAO: LICC) is the sixth Italian airport for passenger traffic. The Catania-Rome route is the busiest at the national level, with 145 weekly flights, as well as the fourth in Europe. S.

The history of the airport dates back to the early twentieth century, when a airfield was built for military purposes. Later, in the twenties, an airline service was started between Catania and Palermo. During World War II, the airport suffered severe damage from bombing, but was later rebuilt and expanded to cope with increased commercial air traffic.

In recent decades, it has seen a significant increase in the number of passengers, which led it to become the main airport of the island. In the airport there is the MARISTAELI base of the Navy; moreover, not far from the airport there is the air base of Sigonella.

It is the second airport of the Mezzogiorno after Naples. The traffic of the airport remains in continuous expansion, with numerous scheduled and charter flights favored by geographical location and road links.

The airport is sometimes subject to operational restrictions or temporary closures because of volcanic ash emitted during the eruptions of Etna that can invade the airspace and runways forcing, for safety reasons, to divert flights to other airports in the region.

La cartella bma-LICC-Catania-v3 contiene un esteso aggiornamento alla vecchia release v2, caricata un paio di anni fa.

L'Aeroporto di Catania-Fontanarossa (IATA: CTA, ICAO: LICC) è il sesto aeroporto italiano per traffico passeggeri. La tratta Catania-Roma è la più trafficata a livello nazionale, con 145 voli settimanali, nonché la quarta in Europa.

La storia dell'aeroporto risale ai primi anni del Novecento, quando venne costruito un campo di volo per scopi militari. Successivamente, negli anni Venti, fu avviato un servizio di linea aerea tra Catania e Palermo. Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, l'aeroporto subì gravi danni a causa dei bombardamenti, ma fu successivamente ricostruito e ampliato per far fronte all'aumento del traffico aereo commerciale. Negli ultimi decenni, ha visto un rilevante incremento del numero di passeggeri, che lo ha portato a diventare il principale aeroporto dell'Isola. Nell'aeroporto sorge la base MARISTAELI della Marina Militare; inoltre, non molto distante dall'aeroporto si trova la base aerea di Sigonella.

È il secondo aeroporto del Mezzogiorno dopo Napoli. Il traffico dello scalo resta in continua espansione, con numerosi voli di linea e charter favoriti dalla posizione geografica e dai collegamenti stradali.

Lo scalo è, talvolta, soggetto a limitazioni operative o temporanee chiusure a causa delle ceneri vulcaniche emesse durante le eruzioni dell'Etna che possono invadere lo spazio aereo e le piste obbligando, per motivi di sicurezza, a dirottare i voli sugli altri aeroporti della regione.
