An updated version of this scenery package is included in my new Bay Area Bridges bundle, along with all my other previously released bridge scenery packages for the area and some other extras.
The Carquinez Bridge is a complex of two parallel highway bridges that span the Carquinez Strait at the far northeast end of San Francisco Bay, connecting the cities of Vallejo and Crockett. The first bridge, constructed in 1958, is a steel triple-span cantilever bridge, which carries the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80; the other, opened in 2003 to replace the bridge's original 1929 span, is a single-span suspension bridge which carries the westbound lanes of I-80 as well as a bicycle/pedestrian lane. Both bridges are just under 3500 feet in total length.
Features
- Hand-modeled recreation of the Carquinez Bridge, its toll plaza on the north end of the bridge, and the connected approach ramps on the Crockett side of the bridge.
- LOD models to reduce performance impact.
- Night lights on the bridge: road lights and suspension tower flood lights are from the native object library; marine and aircraft guidance lights, and suspension cable 'necklace' lights, added in Blender.
- Some light terraforming and vegetation tweaks around the bridge ends.
Installation
- Download the ZIP file and extract the "whitearcades-carquinezbridge" folder to your Community folder:

I’ve been downloading your Bay Area bridges as they became available and only finally had a chance to fly them all last night. Beautiful and meticulous work! Thank you so much. Looking forward to the Benicia-Martinez set… and I'll throw my vote in with user “nightowlbob” for the Antioch bridge. It suffers from being on the border of PG and default scenery and thus the whole middle section is non-existent.
To be sure, if you packaged Vallejo's Hwy 37 and Mare Island bridges and the beautiful Rio Vista Hwy 12 lift bridge (I live in Rio Vista BTW) into a "Bay Area Bridges" payware release that included the missing night lighting for the old and new spans of the Oakland Bay Bridge... I’d be the first to purchase. Your work is really outstanding. Thanks again!

Wow, thanks so much. I'm not sure I'm going to get to the Antioch Bridge right away after I wrap up the Benicia bridges - getting the itch to move onto something else for a bit as I realize I've been on these for about a month on and off - but certainly it's on my list of bridges to work on. The other two Vallejo bridges you mentioned would also be logical choices to add. Was not very familiar with the Rio Vista bridge before you mentioned it, but that truss structure really is gorgeous. Would be neat to try and tackle it.
Honestly the response to these bridge sceneries has really knocked me down. This was mostly just something to keep me occupied between a couple larger projects, and to make my flights around the Bay Area a little more true to life. But I definitely plan to make more as opportunities arise and as my free time allows.
