on January 13, 1940, the Osorno Air Club was founded.
The Osorno Air Club was founded on January 13, 1940 with the aim of training new pilots and the entry of members, promoting at that time sports and recreational aviation in southern Chile in all its forms and applications, using all the means at its disposal.
The first airstrip was located in the Ovejería sector of the city and later moved to the Pampa Alegre Aerodrome in the Francke sector, where it operated until mid-1997.
The rapid growth of the city forced the institution to look for a new house for the normal development of its activities, obeying the provisions issued by the General Directorate of Aeronautics of Chile, especially with regard to flight safety.
Since 1997 at Aerodromo Cañal Bajo...
Since 1997 it has been operating on land adjacent to the Cañal Bajo Aerodrome, where a modern infrastructure was built, with its respective hangars, offices, meeting rooms, maestranza and a cafeteria open from Tuesday to Sunday.
For the realization of flight courses it has a Flight School formed by three instructors who are in charge of training new students and checking our pilots in post flight safety.
On the other hand, the partner already trained as a pilot, has 7 two-seater and four-seater aircraft, improvement courses that enable its further development in comfortable facilities, as well as a pleasant headquarters for leisure and sports practice.
As of 2018, the institution also has a two-seater glider for the instruction of sailing flight in a privileged area for the development of this activity.
The Osorno Air Club is among the most important air clubs in Chile for its prestige, organization, as well as for the infrastructure developed in its 80 years of air history, making it one of the most relevant institutions of its kind in the country and an active member of the Chilean Air Federation.
